Machine just the timing cover?

Is it possible to get the rear timing cover machined only? I just bought a 7mgte and it appears the timing cover is barely higher than the deck surface. I cant really afford to take the whole block apart at this time and get the deck resurfaced, so i was wondering if i could measure the clearance and get that much taken off the cover. Thanks.

Sounds good, but is it likely that the machinist will charge out the ass for a procedure like this? Is it a better idea to find a scrap block to bolt it to and get the whole unit machined?

By the way i just pulled the pan and it appears that there are no oil squirters! Any idea what is up with that? Everything is identical to a turbo block besides the squirters... Does this mean it is an NA block, or did some turbo motors come without squirters? (this is out of an 89 By the way.)

seems its a na block converted . Does it have the webs on the external cylinder bores? (stronger block version). there will be webs between each cylinder and up the middle of the curve of the cylinder bore as well....

IJ posted pics, ill try to find them. All blocks have a web (thick line) going vertically up the block between the cylinder bores on the outside. the new improved ones have webs added on the actual cylinder bore as well... externally of course.enjoy

its easier to see on the exhaust side. you will have 1 line in between each cylinder and 1 line on each cylinder.

i thought i remember reading that the early turbo blocks had no squirters. any one clarify?

I will take a look at this tomorrow. Even if i figure this out, what am i proving here? (besides its a stronger/ weaker block version)

I was reading the "Turbo-A" engines didn't have them, though i honestly have no idea what "turbo-A's" are.

BTW, all im trying to figure out is if its an original turbo block or not, i don't care much for whether or not its the stronger version.

are you 100% sure there are no squirters? it looks as though you have two knock sensors and the na blocks only have provisions for 1 knock sensor unless the second location was drilled and tapped....

i highly doubt you have a turbo a block as i dont think any turbo a cars are in america but i could be wrong.

Im going to take more pictures tomorrow to verify this. I have never seen a block with squirters so I could very well be missing something. I was told they would be easily visible and replaceable with the crankshaft in the block, and i looked all over and cant seem to find them ( I have seen many pictures of them and where they should be).

Yay! Oil squirters!

Oh, and something that I read a while back is that if you have the oppertunity you should replace the oil squirters with new ones as the springs in them will fatigue and cause them to open at too low a pressure causing an abnormal drop in overall oil pressure. Somebody please correct me if this is wrong.
