stupid question, i know. i am too lazy to look for the answer on my own. i see alot of stuff that says "MA70." and i noticed on my firewall the other day, random numbers and letters, MA71, and some more randomness. what is the difference between the two. or am i just really tired and imagining that i am seeing certain letters and numbers.

MA71 is a designation for turbo models... I can't recall if they all had it though or if it was started after a certain year.

EDIT: Oh, and not searching for answers here is going to get you a LOT of shit!

the whole, "too lazy to search" thing was a joke. but thanks for explaining. i thought it had something to do with the models, i just wasn't sure.

close. MA71 only appears in the VIN, indicating a 7MGTE equipped car (MA70 = 7M-GE). ALL A70 chassis are stamped MA70....if you did search you would have found a thread debating this long ago (or was that on SF?).

Somebody has a site where they state that the MA71 chasis's were not being produced fast enough by Toyota, so they had to use the MA70 chasis. I don't know if that person just made it up or what, because it isn't true. But people read the web site and are misinformed. I know, that is hard to believe in the Supra community.

DrJonez's description is correct. It is all about the VIN.

Except for the 1J & 1G powered cars. They are JZA70(1JZ) & GA70(H)(1G- powered cars.)

werd. while i think people have "heard" about a MA71 stamped chassis, no one has seen one. so until we get pix, they don't exist.

Toyota always does it, and it's not just for the Supra, it's not a big deal really.

All 7M-powered Supras are MA70s.

The VIN is not the chassis code.
where does one find the chassis code?
