I have a set of stubby acorn lug nuts and I just got a set of 17" wheels. Questions is, will these lug nuts work, or will I have to get a set of lug nuts?

Usually aftermarket wheels and lugnuts have a different degree of tapering than stock lug nuts. If you have seen that video of the red FD RX-7 with all 4 wheels falling off 3 seconds into his autocross than you will understand why using the correct lugnuts is important.
I would assume that your aftermarket "acorn" lugnuts would work with your afternmarket 17s but you can never be too sure.
