LSD not working.

Welding a diff is not bad at all. It's actually pretty awesome. It's definitely not the best way, but it's a cheap and easy fix to a problem. It's not hard to drive on the street, it's not much worse than a 2-way clutch type.

So as long as you know how to drive, you shoudn't have any issues.

But you might not want to do it if you're concerned about the car not putting down power in the lower gears in the rain. Because that's really dumb.

It's a limited slip, not a locker...

Hence if one tire is loaded and one isn't (like being stuck), it's not going to put the power where you want it and can overheat the LSD.

It's not hard to rebuild the LSD, and a simple oil change helps a lot (small amount of gear oil back there, it's prone to overheating, not to mention people forget to change it...)

iam not saying iam trying to race in the rain, it was just a way of saying a 4.30 is pointless with a 1j, for a n/a it would be rather nice. and welding the rear is not such a bad thing, ive driven cars before with welded rears its not much diff that any other car with lsd.

not to start anything, but are you saying the 1jz spins tires more than a 7mgte? from my experience the 7m has a $#!^ load more torque and I spins my tires at 60-70 in 3rd gear, if I do it right, getting on the interstate in dry pavement? try having a 4.556(a rare ratio in the 86.5) and a turbo 7m, not saying i didnt liked how it pulled (it was a blast just not practical) i just didnt like 60mph at around 3300 rpms in 5th gear. i dont think my 3.93 is working by the way, i tend to spin in third and under on straight dry pavement, mods are in sig.

Has anyone done a write up on rebuilding them including replacing the clutches, i know i saw one about re-tighting the pinion because they were poorly set from the factory, but cant seem to find it.

and i got 4.3 with a 7m-geT at 8lbs, at its awesome, dont really care about my mpg on the freeway cause it aint my DD. and have you seen fuel prices lately lol...

yes iam saying a stock 1j will spin the tires more easily than a stock 7m.
