I was out last nite having some fun, and i realized my lsd isnt working. It seems to work if iam driving strait, but when iam turning its peg leg. I guess my question is whats the best thing to do when this happens? do i fix the stock one?, find another used one and hope it works? find a thorsen? or is it just worth it to save up for like a kaaz?

I just swapped mine out. I noticed my car was spinning a lot more when I tried to get on it in second and third. I got home and did a burnout in front of my house and I only left one black mark. I swapped my 3.91 out for my stock 3.73's. It's working correctly but it's whining right now. I've already purchased another 3.73 to replace mine with.

With my stock 3.73 first and second gear are short anyway :D

I'd hate to have a 4.30 with just my mods, not even going to think aobut if I had more power...

I had 4.30s for a while with very similar mods to yours and 1st might as well have not existed :biglaugh: 2nd could actually see full boost for a second though! I kind of miss it but 3.73s are much more practical.

4.30 are way to short. and another used one will peg leg sooner rather than later. i have a extra 3.73 that i'm going to rebuild sometime. it was whinning really bad and would barely posi up. i tore it down and inspected it. the pinion debth is shallow and the clutch packs are worn. with new clutch packs and the pinion debth set right it will be good to go. i recommend you doing the same. for under $200 you can get all new friction and clutch disk. if its not whinning i would just pop in a new clutch packs. leave the pinion alone and just take out the carrier. DON'T MIX UP THE SHIMS AND CAPS FOR THE CARRIER BEARINGS and you'll be good.

How do you know if it's bad? Does it feel like a bad drivetrain, driveshaft,no traction?

Its pretty easy to tell if your pegleggin it when doing a donut.

sounds like a good time to switch to an N/A 4.30..

I love mine combined with a turbo..!

Ive got the 4.10 right now a 4.30 would be pointless! i already have no traction in first through third in the rain.

do you really need to put much power down in the rain?

and if your worried about traction in the rain, welding a rear end(on a dd)...:nono:

Welding a diff is BAD.

-bad tire wear
-getting pulled over for breaking traction around corners
-trying to drive around corners without breaking traction
-wear on the drivetrain
-inevitable failure of the diff

Unless it's a trailered drag car or a cheap drift car (not going to be cheap in the long run), don't do it!
