I have lately been thinking about dropping an LS1 engine and Tremec T56 into my Supra. I do love the 7M and have mostly been against V8s, but I have gotten over it. The 7M just does not give me the torque I want in the lower RPMs.

I have heard that a couple people have put V8s in the MKIII, and even more specifics I have heard of LS1 swaps. If anyone can give me any advice or information on this swap please don't hesitate to tell me.

Syst: The T56 is a bit of a problem for Mk3's as the Extension Housing is 220+mm wide and the Tunnel back there is 210mm.

I looked into doing a GenIII swap and still think it would make a perfect Mk3 motor! (Light Compact Powerful and a growing aftermarket)

The Juggernaut has my old
im not one to harp on anyone else for doing stuff to a supra but a 7m has plenty of torque in the lower rpm provided its a healthy engine and already has problems getting it to hook off the line. and a side note how are you going to feel when a 7m powered supra walks off from your ls1 powered supra after you putting all that money into it. i have seen several 7m supras beat an ls1 powered camaro. but hey if thats what you want go for it.... to each his own.... just hate to see another supra go that route.... if you want an ls1 you could buy a 3rd gen. camaro and put it in...

there is a video of a supra that does one hell of a wheelie stand on supraforums. the supras suspension is not set up for drag race but if you wanted to set it up where it would transfer weight for drag racing and had the horsepower it would bring the wheels off the ground... I just have love for the supra and prefer it over all other sports car.....

but if your set on a V8 why not a lexus ls400 V8. you would still be powering the car with a toyota engine and you could slap a supercharger or turbo it out for an awesome car.....

just my 02. dont take it personal....

i saw a supra on here from a owner in england or uk that had a V8 in it. it was the most beautiful in stall i have seen yet. he must have had all the hp he wanted and then some.hell,if someone had a kit that would allow me to throw in a stout chevy in there,i would but it.set up right,it would give the 7MGTE a serious run for it's money. but it's all about individuality,ya know. what I want my car to look like, what I want my car to sound like. sometimes the complexity of a turbo might just give way to the simplicity of a good 'ol V8.

the t56 that is bolted to the ls-1 is a crap piece. They tend to have issues at stock power levels. you'd be best to get the gear box from a viper or cobra and use the chebby input shaft, front cover and bell housing. Or you couls use an r154 with a chevy to jeep ax15 conversion since the ax is very similar to the r154.

why use the chevy bh when i could fab a plate to bolt a w58 or r154 bh to it?and i figured id grab a t56 from a vette. i see those guys put lots of power through them.if i did, id prolly go from my 3.727 up to one of my 4.10's

William: Go check out a T56 it's not as easy as bolting on a W58/R154 Bellhousing as the stock bellhousing is also part of the front of the trans!

A place here is making a new blank front plate that will allow different Bellhousings to bolt on.

The t56 from a vette is a transaxle and yes, they still have issues.

I have a viper t56 here that was converted to ford via a kit through d&d in michigan. I dont recall if the standard ford is seperate or not but this one has a bell housind independant of the front plate.

the t56 i saw a pic of had the bh unbolted from it. dont recall what vehicle it came from. its out of my pricerange anyhow. like i said, ill prolly be th400 unless i get the m21 from my friends cousin. i already have the plate to bolt the th400 up. if i get the muncie, ill use the th400 on a 2uz when i build a drag car. also, the t56 is bound to have a front plate of some sort, so a plate could be made just the same as for the th350/400. heres the one i already have. bolts a a340e bh to the front pump.
