I am in the process of replacing the radiator in my 1991 Supra Turbo and have decided to replace all of the hoses that haven't been replaced in the last couple of years. I am looking for any tips or suggestions on how to do the lower radiator hose.

On a side note, does any one have opinions on replacing the upper radiator with a "hard pipe" setup as opposed to a stock hose?

If you havent done the lower radiator hose then your gonna have a blast!!!!!

Its so irritating and theres really no tips on getting it through, you just gotta gradually
feed it through but make sure you remember how your old one was or you will end up
with kinks and what not, also make sure you clamp them on!!!!! they will come off inevitably.

As far as the hard pipe upper rad hose ive never did it, i know some people have leaking
issues if you dont seal it correctly. i know alot of the reason is just for engine dressing up.

Best advice I can give for the lower radiator hose is to use the stock clamps (I bought new ones, if you have them on there still, reuse) as there is no damn room to tighten a worm gear. Not to mention worm gears are good at one thing, shredding hoses.

^ Very true

I ended up replacing a bunch of hoses/clamps for this exact reason.

The Lower hose for 85 supra works great. I ended up cutting my powersteering braket to fit and used a smaller belt ( I accidentally cut the new hose a bit short). Make sure the hose is for a 85 supra with the 5mge motor.

Oil safe hose will work there.

But toyota seems to be the only place with the correct bends. :(

You could buy the hose and buy a 90 degree coupler. :)

I've had a MKII lower radiator hose on my car for several years. Much better fitting and design. :)

Yeah the bends on the hose are killing me. Someone mentioned an 80s style SBC had the same hose on the PCV system IIRC but noone could ever source the correct part for some reason.

I might try that 90 degree coupler though, I'll call napa up and ask about it.

Thankee!

Back to Topic: I just did mine and it's definitely a 2-man crew. You need one to snake the thing around to the manifold underneath and one above to help guide it into the connector. And definitely do it with the engine COLD. Not fun playing around with hot motor parts... :3d_frown:

I don't mean to hijack your thread OP, so please don't hate me =X

Anyone know of a replacement hose, besides Toyota, for the oil/vapors hose to the right of the oil cap that runs behind the alternator?

nope, get the oem one and new constant pressure clamps (if yours are missing).
