BoostLee's car did this for... about a year and the engine is STILL going. I just replaced the rods/mains in it (as it is the engine I'm swapping into my 82) and they were deff worn.

Yeah, you never know. Bearings are pretty cheap though. If I were in the same situation as Mondo I would try replacing those bearings now. Spinning a bearing is def no bueno. Funny thing, I'm swapping my old GE into my 82 as well.

I.M.O. (only) Sporadic oil pressure, maybe it's stuck check valve
B.T.W. I think that ticking sound is the valve's or exhaust leak, rods have a different tone.

Check valve is where?

Thanks a lot for the advice btw everyone.

There is no check valve in the stock 7M oil system. Not sure were you pulled that one out of your arse, but if you don't know for sure...DO NOT post.

Mondo - A hot oil pressure of 20 psi at idle and 40 psi at cruise is good.
Fix your exhaust leak. Set the correct valve lash clearances.

Is this something a joe schmo can do in their garage or does it take specific equipment?

It seems the oil pressure has been getting better, maybe the channels were sludged up and is just taking awhile for it to break apart? >hopes<

Is it this?

Your pressure was never bad ;)

Yes, that guide is what I am talking about. Not difficult, just time consuming.

I just saw/heard the vid in this thread, and It sounds exactly like my 7m NA does.

It's been running for a year now, no problems. It's never gotten worse, so I believe it's mostly benign. Everyone I talk to that knows engines say it's a valve tick, which can get worse with time. so maybe I'm lucky and it just hasn't happened to me.

I have noticed the tick goes away after a fresh oil change, and everytime I replenish the oil system. (burning a quart a week, roughly, bad rings me thinks)

I'm not overly concerned, but then again I'm rebuilding a 2jz-ge replacement /shrug

dunno if that's reassurance or not lol

Actually it is. :p Means i dont have to drive like a granma or go back to driving the Bimmer.

Atleast it wasn't a bigger issue than i thought.

Changing the Manifold gasket tomorrow and i will post another vid of the sound. If it goes away, valves. If not, then i need to check clearance.

Thanks again everyone
