no, bspt is not a standard size hardware stores will carry. I had to go to a large plumbing supply warehouse for mine.

I had the similar problem but my oil pressure wasnt that low at idle when i used 5w30. i then was told to use 5w40 and my oil pressure went up

i don't think you should change oil to bring it up you might have other problems like me!

on topic, i searched about the relief valve and found that on a cold start and cold idle the oil cooler should never get warm. is this true? because mine does get warm. so should i get a new spring from Toyota or a new spring and valve? oh and my oil pressure gauge is on the way!

thanks for the help guys i really appreciate it.

Of course the pressure went up, you increased the resistance to flow. If you want more oil in your engine, remove the stock bypass unit, and install a temp dependent oil cooler system. Your "pressure" will go up from more oil trying to fill the same space.

As stated - not a good idea. Might want to read the Motor Oil 101 link in my sig.

That can easily be the problem like I said earlier. The cooler relief should not actuate on a stock system until ~40 psi. If the cooler is getting warm right away (at idle), the relief valve is stuck open.

I would still test the pressure - especially pay attention to the 3000 RPM value.

get a new spring and valve and go from there as there cheap from toyota.

In addition to a new spring, make sure there's not any crud or burrs on the piston?cylinder that is causing it to bind.

A BIG + 1 to reading the Motor Oil 101, it should be required reading before anyone is allowed to join the site. With a test for verification.

^that would smarten up some people but others are just going to think its wrong and think thicker oil is better. its kinda like how people see that at idle they have next to nothing for oil pressure and at 3k they have 40psi. domestics have like 20-30psi at idle and like 60 for 3k+. so they think O there is something worng with this jap car i should have stuck with my pos camero.

And those that chose to think it's wrong can remain ignorant (it is a choice).

tested the oil pressure today 7psi hot idle and 33 psi at 3000 rpm. I ordered the spring and valve and they gave me the oil pump ones... then they told me the springs was the same as the oil cooler one is this true? so i am getting that spring and the right valve tomorrow and ill install it along with my turbo Saturday and see if it helps.

I don't think the spring and valve help very much if at all but i will hook up the pressure tester again and check it. what else should i do?

Your oil pressure is within specifications. You 3000 RPM pressure is just a hair low, you dont have anything to worry about.

that's good to hear! thank you

so i just left this alone for a while now maybe that was a bad idea because now i am at about 20 Psi at 3000 rpm (on stock gauge) wtf!! does this sound like bearings?
