So last night my buddy and I decide to race a little bit, but before I get started he has a '92 talon tsi. It's the awd turbo version. I was driving mt N/A '90 Celica GT w/ resticted air box.

Now it's story time.

So we began at a slight roll, about 10mph. I dropped it into first as is he is already there, and I immediately begin to pull on him, I figure well his boost hasn't built up yet, but then I hear it and was like "wow" I'm still ahead, I hit second an pulled a little bit more on him. As we went through 2nd he began catching up. Bam, it's redlined in 2nd so I throw it into drive, feeling it go into 3rd, I noticed he shifted at the same time, and there was the race. His turbo had spooled to full potential as he passed me. I cut it off shortly afterwards knowing there was not a chance in the world I'd be able to catch up. Overall I am happy with results because I was not even expecting to be ahead for any point in time during the race. The fact that I was ahead through 2nd made me happy all by itself. Overall good race and was dissapointed at the poor performance of his car. For some reason I was expecting much more from it.

Yikes!!!! I just researched the stock times of both. 1/4 I'm 1.5 seconds slower. He must not maintain his vehicle very well, also I don't know how much difference this makes but I run 91 octane and he uses 86, but still... Talk about a slow turbo.

1.5 second difference in a quarter isn't that bad. That's about what you described in the race. You got the lead but by an 1/8 he had caught you, and by the finish line he had pulled on you. Nothing to be ashamed of. I probably wouldn't do too much racing in my celica though. It's a pretty reliable dd, but wasn't really meant to be out racing turbo'd cars.............lol
