Lose the Moonroof!

why would you buy a car thats a 'good deal' just to say its roof is all fucked up and its going to cost you $500? obvisouly wasnt that great of a deal...

and for gods sake its a 94 camry!!!!!!!! give me a break... drive it till it blows.

also you havent seen many body jobs that look good, because people go all out with replacing body panels, hell i've seen it on TV where they redo parts of panels and when its all said and done, you would NEVER know.

For that bad job on the Camry... is why i got such a good deal on it. LE 4 cylinder. I love it.... and yes I will drive it til it dies... even if it looks bad.

Iwish i could get it fixed.... its either fix the supra or the camry... and i go for the supra fix... unless my camry has stopped running...

My opinion is to cut at the pillars, weld on a hard-top roof from another supra...

Btw, is it a power roof? Mind posting a pic?

Yeah it's a power roof... here's a couple of pics. As I said I resealed it and fixed the mechanical components. I just hate the way it looks and they do make wind noise even with a good seal. Also I think it fucks up the lines of the hard-top roof.

I think cutting it at the pillars is totally overkill. Yes, it will take some skill (which, in all modesty I possess) to get it totally smooth but I know it can be done.

As far making the car sound or feel or drive poorly as a result of patching the hole where the moon roof would no longer be...I can't imagine the moonroof adds any structural integrity, I don't see how anything about the ways the car drives would change.

Actually it does...

There is supposed to be bracing under the roof IIRC, and the moonroof assembly is mounted to what's left of them.

Personally, I like the roof, it's a nice one at that as well...

to be honest when I heard you describe it I thought it was one of those cheesy aftermarket flip up roofs you could buy at Pep Boys and I didnt blame you for wanting to lose it. Now that I see it I think you should keep it. Personally I like it.

I just think it would look cleaner without it, but after listening to you guys saying that:

A) you think it looks ok
B) I might have a problem making it look right by patching it
C) it might mess up the structural integrity

...I'm starting to reconsider removing it.

Come on, at least it's not like the one that was on my truck.

Had a lever to pop it up, and you could remove it completely, couldn't slide it back...

It's nice, seriously look into having an insert made for the inside that will allow you ro block the heat, light, and noise.

Looks fine to me, the front edge is in an arc like the top of the windshield, it looks pretty good to me...

Like I said, I think it would be too much work, I'd just swap shells in this case if I wanted to get rid of it...

I like it, not at much as as it if would pop up and slide back on the outside, but it doesn't mean I don't like it. I notice more luxury cars use this method and sportier cars have it on the outside. I also know that if I didn't like it, I still wouldn't bother to remove it because it still something I would use.

Basically, if it WERE me, I wouldn't remove it unless I flat out hated it. Then I'd roll up my sleeves, get rid of it, have my supra closer to how I want it and I could possibly turn a few bucks from selling it.

Take a few minutes and just ask yourself once, can you live with it, or do you hate it?

If you hate it, you don't have to necessarily get rid of it right awayyy...

Let me know what you decide...and if you decide to get rid of it I'd like to follow along as you do it. I'm just curious.
