all these company's say there motors are 25- 50K but no one can back it up , is it just me or does this seem to be a bit of a scam

for instance my 7mgte is gonna cost me roughly $600 to rebuild the top end (i do the work myself) and my motor has 160,000 miles
but for 1100 i can get a low mileage jdm motor

for an extra 500 seems the thing to do right ??? and get a low mileage engine but whos to say these asshats arent lying thru thier teeth and selling me an engine with just as many miles as the one i have

anyway to make these importers prove mileage any insight to the reality of these claims ????

depends where you go, the place I got my 7MGEs from offers 6 month warranties..

it also helps that they're literally down the street from me...

it's hit and miss, but it's best to rebuild any engine no matter the claims of mileage..

If you're question the jdm engines then you're obviously not qualified to rebuild a head with you doing the work....like Ian said "how does a 20+ year old motor only have 50,000 miles"....seriously dude put the pipe down

if I had rebuilt my own head it would have cost me $20 in valve seals and that's it as all it needed was stock valves reground aswell as seats and a decking.

A long long time ago in a land far far away (japan), you may have been able to find genuine low milage used 7m motors. The sellers of these motors may have been truthfull too. Now it is 15 years later, and the average used 7m on the JDM market is just an old worn out chunk of metal the same as any 20 some year old motor.

What happened is.... one seller advertized their motors as low milage. Soon, in order to keep up, all the sellers claimed the same thing. No proof or merit to the claim. So many people have said the word and printed the word "low milage" that it has become a house hold word when describing a used jdm motor. There is just simply no reason to believe the claim to be nothing more than just advertizing hype and snow balled internet stories.

In the end it is still a old used motor that cost twice as much as the same condition used motor that you could just buy right here in the US. Save your self the trouble and just re-build your motor.

I come from a land down under
Back when JDM engines first appeared here while they were honestly low mile units they more times than not were in horrific condition, most had only 40,000 Km's or so but had NEVER been serviced in that time so were almost solid with sludge.

The removal practice was not the best as well, I had an importer describe it from his first hand perspective... "They hooked the engine by the lift hooks, lifted with a fork lift then gas axed EVERYTHING connected shaking it until the car fell away"

Most accessories were trashed inclding the pan :(
