Just from reading some of the threads here, everynow and then someone will bring a car for sevice when they get it back, the shop wrecked this this or something happened while it was in the shop, and it wasn't like that when they brought it in. I'm looking for ideas like a secret switch will still let the car drive but not at full potential, where the shop guys can have a field day at the owners expense, then not admitting they fucked up your car.

Ex: Lower the boost to about 5 p.s.i.
Idea's anyone besides mine??:3d_frown:

Link up a switch to a boost controller maybe, but don't know how a manual switch would affect that. If there was a way to lock down the setting in a boost controller so that it can't be changed, but again, don't know enough about boost controllers yet to know if it can be done.

I've seen "dead-man's switches" all the time which kill the spark to the ignition so even if a crook has your key he can't start it back up once engaged, but not something that hampens a turbo like that. I've also seen kill switches that work in a valet setting. You hit the switch before getting out of your car (leaving it running), and the valet gets in and parks it. Then, once the valet turns the ignition off it kills the relay so it can't be turned back on, at least until the driver hits the switch again. Wish I knew more about electric mods, I'd be effin' dangerous.... :evil2::evil2:

That's good idea, except there are times when you need to have the car so the tech can dianose it. I just need to have the power cut down, so he/she can go lay rubber, go for a spin, and have a fun time in my car.

He's looking more for a "go fast" switch I'm thinking though. Something that let's the car run on pretty much an "eco-mode" low boost type deal with lower power until it's flicked in to the "OMGOMGOMG" position. I've played with that on my buddy's 240sx a bit, but nothing with the Supra unfortunately, and the mod we did wouldn't work because we were chipping his 240 with a larger chip and put multiple maps on it and used the switch as pretty much a bit modifier to look at the different maps.

If you have an electronic boost controller, just remove power to the control unit. The solenoid will be default to stock routing and only achieve stock boost.
If you have upgraded turbo and such the base boost level will be higher than oem stock level, but they won't have access to your hi boost settings.

Install and miniature camera to film them in action...

Also, take accurate odo readings when dropping the car off, until you get your limp-mode switch installed.

I knew a guy on the camaro forums that put an electric butterfly valve on the intake. If he activated the switch the butterfly valve would cut the air allowed to the engine in half. It was fine for around town, but it wouldn't get enough air to to really go wild. I don't know if this would work for a turbo car though, since I don't understand the fine points of tuning.

since disabling an EBC only limits the car to stock boost, which is still enough to have fun IMO, how about some sort of linkage on the rod on the wastegate acuator so that will hold the wastegate open fulltime at the flip of a switch

You could put your AFM on a switch, force the computer in to safe mode..but messing with that kind of wiring and switches would DEFINITELY not be adviseable.

Someone on the forums has another key on his dash that controls all his piggybacks and boost controller making the car "stock"

Easiest would be an RPM limit box along with killing the boost controller.

just pull the waste gate off so there's zero boost and low compression or do everything yourself.
