I went down last weekend to look at a 2jz-ge Mkiii Supra.

Is there anything I should be looking at before I give the guy money for it? Anything I need to know before purchase?

Some of the questions I asked him were general and whatnot.

HE doesnt know which transmission, or where the engine came from. But the car pulls hard through all 5 gears. Doesnt overheat. And looks good.

Through independant research and searching on teh Forum, I've gathered that the Transmission is a W-58 ( not out of a mkiii ) As there is a hole in the tranny tunnel and the shifter has been moved back.

However the guy doesnt know what ecu its using. Which wiring harness its using. Which electronics its using. Overall, the only reason I know its a 2j is because I can see the stamp on the side of the block.

And idea's on how to identify all of these things and are they important to know?

Pictures would help a lot.
The W58 came in the MKIV NA and in the IS300. Only thing I can think of why the tunnel was cut, which was not a good idea, is that they didnt put the proper bellhousing with the engine.

IS300 has a W55 iirc.

The MKIV NA and SC300 transmissions have a shifter extension that have the shifter bit back about an inch or so.

The Tranny/Engine came as a combo. The work was done at a dealership. I was just curious as to know if there is anything I should look into before I buy the car.

The red one right? I see him running around the marysville Everett area all the time. Well when I seen it, it didn't smoke and looked pretty nice.
