Welcome to the Kalifornication of the Nation. :)
I've seen these in Denver, and here locally our air quality has improved so much that the feds told us we no longer had to monitor and test cars... So the people who own all these junker vans that have been converted into test stations made a huge noise about how it's going to put them all out of business, and cost Idaho jobs... So they keep the testing, and have now included Canyon county next door.... Stupid ass environmentals. They really don't get it. My paying 15.00 per car every year to support what has turned into a jobs program for the uneducated masses here does not improve the air quality one iota. (I run around with no cats. My neighbor who is a cop does not run around with a cat on his sports car.. every other county in the state has no testing requirements... Just these counties, and I still do not understand why Canyon was just changed when they know full well that Boise (Ada) has the Feds telling them "testing is no longer required".
Best I can hope for is the backlash from Canyon county finally kills the "no longer needed" testing here in Ada.... That would be a fitting end to a very good example of government excess at work.

watch they're eyes get really big as you puff black smoke down the road

 :yelrotflm  :yelrotflm

even better, i'd pass by w/ my fucked up BPV, shift, and POW!, flames shoot out the exhaust... followed by large clouds of black smoke... (i'm moving to va, but it sounds like it's easy enough to fool/avoid)

alright this is pretty gay. SO a remote system scans your tailpipe from across the street. It then decides whether or not you pass or fail, given if you fail you have to pay $28 to have the car emissions inspected to see if it indeed does fail.

What the hell is that bs! If i lived there id be happy to run open DP and dump the exhaust before the axle..

Just get view limiting license plate covers.

They work great against speed and traffic/photo radar.

You can't read the plate numbers from an angle. Only from directly behind the vehicle. Most states have banned them, but the worst your going to get is a fix it ticket, and if you carry a screw driver around, you might be able to avoid that by removing it while the officer is there. (Just don't let him confiscate it. The law does not say you can't own one, but can't display them as far as I know.)

So, they photo your car, but can't read your plates.. Too bad for them.

Get really cheeky and flip them off when it's being photographed...LOL Then your getting yours, and they don't know who you are.. :)

Seriously, I would love to go over there and turn the AF to 9:1 and boost away right in front of one of those mutherf'cers.

Lets see it "compute" a nice lead based af of 9:1 @ 18psi

and we've got a winning combination.

I've lived in LA for a while. When I first came 99% of the time you could not see the mountains 5 miles away and some days the sky was green!!! Today, its more like 1% of the time you cannot see the mountains. Emission regs here have made a huge improvement in the quality of life.

Rant over, and I feel a tiny bit better. Thanks for asking.

To me it's more about the big brother thing. As much as I hate doing emmisions it's a good thing, but the fact that they're going to start watching everybody no matter where you go is ridiculous. This kind of thing is going to keep going until we actually stand up and fight it. They'll just keep pushing to see how much we'll let slide and it will lead to more invasive laws.

Wow. I really didn't know that it was making such a positive impact on California. I'm actually very impressed. I had this feeling that we were simply doing too little too late, and that this type of thing should have been done long ago.

I, myself, will be running a cat along with a mild exhaust due to MA's bannination against "modified exhausts" (unless you're a V8 that is...)

Not saying I won't have a dump somewhere though ;)

Well, if you live in Cali you already live in the most oppressive state in the nation. As I said emissions testing isn't going away so it'd probably be better to at least have it done with less hassle and more effectivness even if it involves a invasive technology. After all, we've already accepted it in so many other forms. Come on, you don't really believe the USA is still a functioning democracy do you? ;)
Of course it is, Bush won totally fair and square.
I miss good ole Billy. :nono:
I wouldn't call it less hassle, they'll do this on top of smog shops and probably make up something else for us to pay for too.

Oh ya and bribed by the fedral government through highway taxes to act as if were a common democracy, the kind where whats good for one is good for all, ya know that commie crap. Also Cali may have the stricktest smog laws but hey it's 2006, folks with mk4's are getting 1000hp and can still pass smog from what I understand so what the hey.

If you see one of these things, simply make sure you're in a low gear and take your foot off the gas. No fuel is injected during deceleration. Unless you've got some nasty stuff stuck in the tail pipe or in the cat, etc, that should effectively make your vehicle have 0 emissions.

If you fail, you go to a station to see if you fail. If you pass, you pay nothing, if you fail again, you pay $28, but if you come back within 14 days, a retest is free.

Yea cuz we all know its the cars that cause all the problems nevermind diesel trucks, coal burning power plants, and third world transportation systems. VA has always been a crap state and now I refuse to even drive through it.
