longblock vs shortblock

All this talk of longblock and shortblock 7m's... what's the difference? :icon_conf

If I recall a shortblock is just the block. And a longblock is a block with some internals.

longblock = shortblock + cylinder head and usually intake and exhaust manifolds....

by longblock terms, does the head have to be bolted to the block, or does it matter?

If it does not have a head, it is not a longblock. A longblock can come with out a pan, pickup etc. And a longblock doesn't include manifolds.

It depends on the seller, you have to confirm what comes with it and what doesn't.

yes, i agree, i assumed and i didnt get my manifolds so i had to reuse my old, but it was a longblock.

Im not gonna lie for the longest time i thought a short block was a complete block and head. Then a long block was the same except you got manifolds and everything else.
