They do, but they aren't informed that well...

Last time I talked to Dusty (MVP Motorsports) he was pissed cause they can't keep the damn forum up...

I have offered MULTIPLE times to host that forum. And I know these guys, on a personal and business level.

I obviously know what I'm doing... I know how to make these sites perform.

I have been ignored every time.

I also have been a member of, as well as an administrator at larger websites running vB that run totally fine. The issue is their server/setup.

They need to take some time and optimize things (like the database and search tables), and get the server up to snuff for that size forum.

vBulletin (especially 3.x) is very robust and can handle very large forums. The issues at hand are more than the number of users/posts/threads.

any more questions? LOL

Yes. Why does a forum with 5 times the amount of registered users of this place only have twice the amount of active members?

Supramania was rebuilt on 03-30-2005. We lost the server due to shitty freeware BBS code and a hacker. At that point we purchased the commerical software we run today (the very same software that SF runs on). All content prior to that date was lost.

Supraforums has been up and running since 02-11-2001 on it's current database and software. That database has 4 years of growth on us...

Also, the numbers you discuss don't take into account the quality of the postings, nor the posters. I believe a far higher percentage of our members are here for information about the car. I believe a far higher percentage of the members at SF are MKIV fanboy's who have never seen a Supra in person.

Additionally, I believe our moderators over here do a much more thorough (and more even handed) job than the one that is done at SF. We've got a higher percentage of members who are happy with the site, it's staff and the service that we provide.

We also provide premium level services, like user photo galleries, custom userpages and an integrated chat server. SF is struggling to serve up a basic forum. We're far beyond that. Also our search engine never goes down, our server never goes down and our performance levels are fairly high.

As for the 5x members. SF never purges user accounts. For example:

User #10 at SF created his account on 02-11-2001 - the first day the site was up.

http://www.supraforums.com/forum/member.php?u=10

He has never made a post.

He has never logged in again after that date.

That user account has been inactive for six years! We start purging user accounts at six months.

We purge user accounts on a regular basis. This is why 85% of our user accounts are considered active and only 29% of SF's are.

But when you are marketing your site to advertisers, post counts and numbers of members are great selling points.

We don't worry about that here, so we operate our database for performance and reliability, not meaningless statistics for advertisers...

Our local city car forum has over 40,000 members, and never has problems. The ONLY time it was ever slow was when it was featured on digg, and in the local newspaper the same day. And even then, they fixed it within a few hours.

Plus, it has a search.

I would really like to know how the hell the SF admins continually fail at making a properly working site. I used to love that site. I haven't gone to it in months as a result of their poor upkeep.
