Thats what I think it is. It leaks when more than around 5/7th of the way to the top. I talked to a retired Toyota mechanic and he said it was possibly the breather tube?... Where is the most common/easily deteriorated part for a 20 year old car to go? I really do not have the time to drop the gas tank so whatever I can do to troubleshoot this without dropping her will be great.

I have looked at diagrams of the gas tank assembly(cant seem to find them now dammit) andI was thinking eroded gaskets on the fill tube even.

I know most likely the only way I am gonna be able to spot and fix this is to drop the tank but lets hear some other experiences.

Oh and IJ, Im not looking for a ghetto fix here.:icon_wink I dont wanna die(today:evil2:)

Here's the diagram of the gas tank:

Note there are 4 places on the top of the tank that can cause what your problem is...all are a rubber type gasket. Unfortunately, they all require you to drop the tank to get to, except perhaps the fuel sending unit gasket. That can be accessed from inside the hatch. Could be the breather tube valve too, but I kinda doubt it. The rubber hose that attaches to it would have to be bad too.

Ill give the fuel sender guage sender thingy a shot. I would think that would make my cabin smell if it leaked at all but thats jsut an assumption.

Whats the chances of the Filler Tube/neck springing a leak?

if you're smelling it in the cabin, that would be the most likely culprit...but, gas leaks can be maddening to find ;)
Replace it 1st and if it works...you got lucky!

It experiences the most stress since it goes to the body where the cap is. I replaced all 4 gaskets when I did my Walbro pump swap.

Well I dont smell any gas in the cabin. Thats why I was doubting that location. Maybe I should just buy all the gaskets and do em all one day.

If I did that Ill onl end up finding my gas tank is cracked.. Mark my word lol.

Maybe a gas tank swap from a junkyard(Or ChrisO's yard) is a good option.

Hey, try the fuel sending unit gasket first...who knows, that might be it and it will save dropping the tank. If you do end up dropping the tank it's really not that difficult, but get someone to help you...it's awkward to move around. Disconnect the pump and sending unit from the hatch access before you start. And you might as well replace the fuel filter while the tank is dropped...much easier to get to with the tank out.
