LITTLE RUBBER BOOTS

I just replaced my upper control arm ball joint dust cover and am goin to do the same on the other side of the car.

Problem is that it took me forever to get the little springy clip that holds the top of the dust cover on to the ball joint on. I know it sounds stupid, but this thing is hard to put on when it gets all greasy.

Is there some kind of tool or technique for doing this seemingly simple but in reality maddening task?

I wonder:

a.) if this question is so stupid nobody will reply?

b.) if anyone knows how to do this?

c.) if there is any good answer?

C'mon guys one or two of you does your own work top to bottom like me and has had to deal with these cursid little clips.

can you use snap ring pliers?
what about brake cleaner? that should solve the greasy part...
