light weight aluminum driveshaft questions

thinking of buying one for my 87 na manual. But i was wondering if i really will feel a difference if i get it and also even though a might feel a difference will there be one performance wise? Plus my girl friend said she will pay for it if it makes the car easier for her to drive lol will it?

Well, there is absolutely a difference. Can you feel it? Maybe. Will it make it easier for your girlfriend to drive the car? Absolutely not.

Of course. Any time you reduce rotating mass from your drivetrain, there will be a difference.

Shaftmaster's FTMFW. Aluminum one-piece. It is a work of art, period. Absolutely love mine. I think it has made a great difference over the old junky stock two-piece.

I went with a shaftmasters and it seems awesome I can't say that I gained anything but I'm sure there's a gain being lighter. I was swapping transmissions and didn't want to spend the close to 300 bucks on the new center support bearing. Anything to remove that bearing and simplify things seemed to make sense to me. The weight difference is amazing when you have both of them side by side. For the price I'm not sure I would just do it unless there were signs of the center bearing being bad(mine was). I would spend the money else where first but that's just me.

I have had no vibration issues that people seem to have with other 1 piece setups.

I agree, but I think it's a great mod to do at any point. Just make sure you already have the transmission you want.

It helps by allowing the engine to more efficiently put power to the ground and reduce rotating mass, which equals HP and speed, but it may not be enough to notice unless you had two supras side by side with similar mods and different drive shafts. Even then, it may be difficult to tell the difference off the bat.

My center bearing was bad as well and causing crazy vibrations over 40mph

i have a 1 piece aluminum drive shaft custom made by wiles driveshafts in jackson, tn....now i dont know what the stock one felt like..but this thing weighs like 10-12 or so lbs...heavyest parts are the universal joints...but anyways i love mine.. i would do it!! (think less moving parts less maintenance )!!!! always a good thing for supra's hahaha

Well, I just have to question how much is actually gained on an NA... I can't compare before and after because I swapped transmissions at the same time so it felt totally different for me.

I would spend the money on brakes, suspension or sway bars before the driveshaft for a more noticeable impact. Unless the rest of the car is pretty much where you want it and the driveshaft is a weak link..
