lifter knocking??

The technical jargon is "inverted buckets and shims".
But.... and this is a nice twist to an otherwise dubious thread, the TSRM calls the inverted buckets "valve lifters", and I do quote thus:

I also have this knock, could it cause any harm to the engine if I would keep on driving with them knocking?

Having some lifter noise is very normal with this engines. Not sure I have heard a 7m that didn't have it. So it really depends on how bad it is which only someone that knew 7m's could tell you by hearing it them self.
eugh...so..if i sold my car, that would be pretty much giving up hjuh...seems like a supra is a money pit to keep it maintainted...is the 2jz engine a little bit easier to maintain?
my biggest concer is making the car ok to drive to work everyday so i can get more money. cuz i am broke as HELL right now. i have like...6 bucks? seriously lol. too many expensive hobbies...

Not sure, but there's 24 valves all together, so if all the shims need a different size (I'd say you should be able to mix and match some that are out of clearance with others that are and make a couple work without having to buy more) then I'd be planning on saving some for it.
so is the only way to get these shim individually? or can you get like a kit of a whole bunch of different thicknesses?
well, i just did something for a buddy who is better with cars than anyone i know, and he said he would even buy the valve cover gaskets for me, AND do the labor. all for free! whoot!
A machinist can cut down a piece of bar stock in the same diameter as the Toyota shims to whatever thickness you will need. IIRC someone mentioned the Ford ZETEC engine that had shims in the head (suppost the be one that doesn't) would be a direct drop in for ours too.

yeah i know...it just kills me that i cant do the job in one day. i gotta tear it apart, get my numbers, find out where to get these shims, and then put it back together another day..
