I am doin a swap soon and I've been reading that the capacitors in the 1jz ecu's were bad, my question is, people who have done the swap or has a 1jzgte, when did you capacitors go? How long was it before they went? I mean a standalone would be nice but I'm just buying what need to get the car running.

Mine havnt gone yet.

There is no set time on when they wil go. Some sooner than others and you'll be lucky if they don't.

They're electrolitic capacitors. They dry out and fail with age.

Anyone that's into electornics hates them, but they're a necessary evil because of thei high capacity for their size.

They last about 15 to 20 years from the build date of the car they came from before they start to go bad.

Capacitors and if they leak bad enough, it can mess up the board.

2JZ ECU are super reliable, like the 7M ones.
interesting, it would make sense to just save up and wait for a standalone though, i want to run a standalone in the future anyways, have you guys have experience with the driftmotion service on the 1jz ecu capacitors? It looks like a deal

actually, 2J ECUs have the same issue depending on age.. this is from quite a bit of experience at this point.

the first thing you should do after acquiring a 1J/2J ecu is have all the caps replaced. by waiting, you are just prolonging the inevitable.
