Well i have acceleration problems...it pulls damn hard and will take a stang anyday but acceleration is not smooth. I had a leaky EGR and just yesterday blocked it off. Still have the problem but not as bad. I have original coil packs from my '88 with 170K miles on them. I was leaning towards maybe insufficient spark causing my issue, so what is the average life expectancy of a coil pack? Are mine due for a change? Is it possible they are not giving enough spark? is there a way to check this??

EDIT: I did the resistance check which resulted in .5-.6OHMS - good
I did continuity test and all tested infinity/0 - good
Check coil pack 1 voltage: 11.7-11.8V - good
Check coil pack 2 voltage : ~11.8 - good
Check coil pack 3 voltage: 0 - not so good???? whats going on??

EDIT EDIT: please check the other thread for this since its a new topic in a sense. http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56091

^lol true. Is it possible though one could be giving spark but not enough, causing a choppy acceleration pattern but still a strong one??

1987-2007 274k miles original coil packs...I havent heard much about them going out on our cars, but it is certainly possible. This is why parts car rock, you could just swap them out and see if you can tell a difference. If you determine that you need the coil packs I've got a set that came off of an 89 turbo w/160k miles, just shoot me a PM.

New question: I just did the resistance checks and recieved resistences as high as .6OHM thats .1 over what spec calls which should be OK. However. I did the voltage check and found both coils on the left (if youre facing the engine) got just under 12V around 11.7-11.9. The last coil has no Voltage reading....what does this mean?????

BTW continuity test passed for all coils

^but wouldn't that mean i get no spark in that coil? My car runs....? Is it possible its running on 4 cylanders??? thats seems wierd

I disconnected the connector that plugs to the 3 wires for the coil pack and tried to test for voltage but couldn't get voltage on any wire? I grounded the terminal on the multimeter to the car and didn't get any voltage? did i do that incorrectly?
