I am probably going to be increasing my boost to 10 or 11 psi soon and was wondering if I'd be ok since my front license plate is blocking some of the intercooler. I have a Greddy Gracer front bumper and the stock intercooler with some bent fins would I be ok? You can see what I mean in this pic:

increase to 10-11. wtf is stock boost for 7m's..

every car i have had min boost i ran was 20psi in my mustang. 35 psi on my dsm and 25psi on my 1jz. all with 0 issues.

anyways if you have a fmic you shouldnt have a plate blockin it in the first place. defeats the purpose of having a fmic.

I won't do it on the Stock HG Alec, but it's your car so do whatever you want with it.

Pras re-torqued the headbolts. Pras said that I'd be fine, he said that he used to run 16psi daily with no problem on one of his other MK3's that had 230k miles. Mine only has 138k.

Probably all on pea shooter turbos...

What was the point of your post again?

Back to the OP, yes, you should be fine, you could make a better bracket to move it forward farther so air can get around it easier.

Well then I think I'll leave it as is. I don't drive my car aggressive. I drive like an old lady lol. Once in a while I'll go wot for a couple seconds no more than 5500 rpms. Do you think I'd be OK? The head bolts were re-tourqued.

Or put the plate on a frame thats hinged, forward movement would make the plate swing back, allowing air flow.Parked, and the weight will make it swing down!! Eh? Eh?

Take the plate off. GO out to the woods and take a shotgun to it. Make speed holes. Seriously if you stillhave the under splash guard intact, then you shouldn't be worried at 10psi or even 12psi. The surface area of a stock 7mgte intercooler is more then most side mount intercoolers and with the slash guard air doesn't divert somewhere else. No worries and boost happy.

I ran 17 psi on a 57 trim on my 1g DSM with the stock SMIC with some decent heatsoaking. I blame the heatsoaking on the tiny 1.75 inlet and outlet on the SMIC.

Common misconception with intercoolers is they have to be all out in the air.
Even if you only have 1/3 or 1/2 of it showing it is still equally as efficient as one that's 100% out in the air.

Your plate is fine where it is, either leave it, do what Ian said and relocate it up with some "L" brackets, or what supraman7mgte said put it on a hinged bracket so it swings out of the way at speed.

Whatever you do, you're fine.

Straighten them. That would be more important than the licence plate, depending on how much is area is bent.

How do I straighten them? It's not THAT bad, they just aren't perfect. But it's in great shape for being 20 years old, I'd say.

It's extremely time consuming, but the next lazy sunday you have, grab a medium sized zip-tie and cut the head off. Feed it through from the back and it'll straighten the bent ones out on it way through. That's how I did mine.
