so its 100% compatible ( bolt in affair) with the stock unit ( computer/wiring)????

I never even researched this before hand. Just thought i would ask on my thread while i am at it :icon_wink

I think i may just go with the Lex/650 set up...that would allow me enough room to fine tune the motor....I should get around 400whp from my set up i have on paper. Just the money is not there right NOW. :x:

I come from a land down under
Siman: No idea I took the "easy" way out and went full standalone ;)!

There's a few really good threads here on the MAFT and ShawnDude knows a bunch about it even though he rarely posts anymore!
(I used to try and follow their tech threads until my brain would explode)

....or until the hack happend...there was so darn much info before the hack, now we have to get it back on here! So starting new threads like this is imperitive to the mk3 community's well being!

So I would need THIS:
Maft For Mk3 Supra

MAFT tuning device for MK 3 Supra
This unit will allow the conversion from the very restricive stock MAF sensor to the free flowing and accurate GM sensors. These units measure air much better than the stock units allow for quicker spool ...

List Price: $199.99
050SUPRA3MAFT_100.GIF

and THIS:
MAF_100.JPG

25179711 3.5" MAF sensor. Our most popular unit. See the "Make your own" section for pipe parts clamps and hoses

So it is plug in play? Well with a wideband o2 and some other metering devices it should be....right?

that's correct. i'd prob just get the MAF off ebay, <$20....

it's not plug n play, it's splice n play....

Hahahah about "splice and play" hahahahha

So it gives you that much more room to play with than the lexus meter?
What do you think would be the "better" choice anyways? the lexus ( of course higher CC injectors) or the GM MAF and Translator?

I am just aiming for 400whp...which is pretty easy to obtain....so which would suit my needs BETTER?

Maybe i just go with the GM unit and call it a day....cleans up the engine bay thats for sure! I wont need that ugly AFM unit from Toyota...hmmmm

Dr.J, what unit are you using in your sig picture? Is that the LEX?

It gives you a LOT more room to play than the Lexus AFM. With the MAFT, a MAF, some sensors, some cleaned and tested stock injectors, a new snail, and some good tuning, you should be able to hit 400 rwhp, or damn close to it.

The MAFT also allows you to use any size injectors up to 1020cc.

I'm having a lot of fun with mine. I'm up to 15 psi without fuel cut.

funny thinking: Everytime i read "fuel cut" i think if RPM cut off....or REV CUT.....just something that my mind has conditiond for some weird freaky reason LOL :3d_frown:

Grim, what is the "snail" you are reffering too?

I am just at a stand still on what element i should purchase! I cannot decide wheather to pay twice as much for the GM MAFT conversion or just the Lex and 650 injectors......

My overall happyness goal of 400-450whp is easily in reach this sommer, but with this topic just on my mind...i cannot make a overall decision on what IS best!

LOL.....I dont see the reason to call the turbo a sail...but ok :yelrotflm

I Think i am going 60 trim compressor and 70trim exhaust. That should spool near to stock...3500rpms or so...but with the bigger cams that should be alright anyways...I am going to take the N/A cams i purchased from Dr.J to a shop in Nashville to see about custom grinds.....my great uncle ( who owns the shop i did my supra engine pull in after the BHG) used to race motorcycles back in the 50's through the 70's....he raced the salt flats, the fastest he reached was around 180mph...back then that was moving....he expiramented with custom grinds....rebuilt motors stroked them etc......until he saw his friend hit a telephone poll riding his motorcycle....after that he never touched one again. :icon_redf

But yeah......I think the N/A cams have some more meat i could reshape with....hmmmm

IJ is correct, snail = turbo. :)

650cc injectors and a Lexus AFM won't be sufficient, you would need some type of fuel control that can subtract duty cycle if you go over 550cc injectors. This rules out the Greddy e-manage, it can only add fuel, not subtract it.

Last time I checked, injectors + a Lexus AFM cost more than a MAFT + MAF. Never mind injectors + Lexus AFM + Fuel computer piggyback. My personal choice would be the MAFT - which is demonstrated by my purchasing decisions, I already own a MAFT and an Impala MAF.

Bottom line, as long as you buy a new turbo, then either of these routes would work.

Yeah, I already want a Blitze DSBC, and an Apexi SAFC fuel controller....and maybe the Bee-R rev limiter......for kicks :) ( i want to shoot fireballs at a stop light so bad)

So if i have a SAFC i can tune the duty cycle of the injectors.....and of course the blitze boost controller......or the Apexi one...i cant decide
I guess whatever i get has to work. much less work RIGHT

the MAFT is essentially a device that lets you use a diff MAF AND it allows you to scale the AFM input, i.e. a SAFC.

my sig pic is horribly old and yes, that's the lex.

I have run up to 24psi on my SP61GT using the Lex AFM. I do have a fuel cut defender wired in too, but I'm not sure if its helping me avoid fuel-cut. BTW, don't try this without having your engine dynotuned.
