So here is my dilemma.... I have to give up my poopra for paint for a few days, and unfortunately it is my only mode of transportation (I am not old enough to rent a vehicle). I have both work and school every day, but luckily they are within about 10 miles from home. I have a goped: http://www.goped.com/products/s25/default.asp

All the specs for it are there. I would really love to use this to get around from work/school/home etc for about a week, but I cant afford to get a ticket and end up having to walk this thing miles home. I have searched endlessly online to no avail concerning the goped laws for Avondale, Arizona and I don't know where else to look. The only definitive answer i have found is to contact my local police department, but after reading that police thread apparently there is no good reason to ever talk to police, lol. Anyways I figured before I went and did that I would ask you guys if you would help me find a definitive answer for this. If I can find the actual law concerning the use of a goped (which may fall under the category of a Moped) I can print it out and keep it with me in case of indecent.

Thanks for any help.

If you see a cop, kill the motor and start kicking like an actual scooter. LOL.

When I was 16 or 17 I had a sweet oldschool Sparta Moped. It was a pedal start. I used to rip all over the place on that thing and it was so damn comfortable. I got "pulled over" several times, but always got off when I looked in the mirror, killed the motor, and started pedaling/coasting with it. LOL. It was awesome. I'm sure the cops just thought I was funny trying to get away with it, but I was always a pretty good kid and most of the local cops knew me from my job anyway. As soon as they drove away, I'd flick the kill switch back on, pop the clutch and away I'd go!

Haha that's not a bad idea, but unfortunately my goped is direct drive so if the motor aint spinning neither is the rear wheel haha. I wouldn't mind getting pulled over and given a warning but I read somewhere that you can be ticketed around $300 if you are riding illegally. Not to mention if I'm far away from home I'm now dragging this scooter on its rear wheel. I used to ride it around my neighborhood when I was a kid, it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately there are bitter old people that got tired of the noise and started calling the police, I haven't really used the thing since.

If you dont want to call the police, just ride your MoPed untill your pulled over. Im sure they will tell you then what the laws are about it.

I believe in AZ it's like most places, as long as you're <49cc, you're good to go, just like a bicycle. Make sure you're wearing a helmet though, and despite the weather, I'd recommend some leathers, at least a jacket. Not fun, but it'll get you by for now.

Well right now I am riding a bicycle but its doing a number on me.. I haven't ridden in years and I'm doing around 12 miles a day between work and school, biking to work at 6 in the morning isn't too fun either. I was hoping someone would be able to help me find the actual law that is in place, because hearsay is worthless when being questioned by the police.

So why haven't you called Avondale PD yet? They don't bite, and I'm sure they could give you the A.R.S that pertains to motorized vehicles such as the one you're wanting to ride...

Looks like Arizona doesn't have any restrictions on GoPeds so long as they are under 50cc's and don't go faster than 35 MPH. Wear a helmet (not required if you're older than 17) and enjoy the commute. I used to have a 30 MPH GoPed, pretty fun suckers. I want to get an off-road one with the chain drive and clutch that allows me to idle at a stop.
