so, since LEDs are so cool, have minimal current draw and produce stark white light... i wondered if anyone could give me some input on using LED bulbs for fog lights. i know they will undoubtedly have less lumen output compared to a similar H3 bulb... but as i see it, MK3 foglights are virtually useless to me anyways. however, if i had LED bulbs in them, at least they would have a nice appearance like an HID would, in terms of light color/temperature.

i thought my fog lights didnt work because of more electrical gremlins. so after i removed my dead pedal, sill plate and kick panel to access my fog light relay, i decided id try to turn them on and see if it at least worked cuz i had never heard it before. well, my relay clicked whenever my fog switch was cycled as well as cycling between Lo and Hi beams. so, i checked voltage at the fog light connectors, got 12v there. pulled the fogs out to check the bulbs. found some Sylvania Osram 55w bulbs in there. the poewr lead was discolored due to heat and the bulb had an opaque cobalt blue coating inside; something burned up. i figure with LED fog light bulbs, i would at least forgo the "huge" current draw and potential electrical problems that people soemtimes encounter.

both the ebay vendor for LED fog lights as well as Superbrightleds.com state that they are for "show" and dont really put out any decent lighting... why cant they actually install "super bright LEDs" like what is available for Mag-lites or those key chains for Hikers. those LEDs are visible from a mile away, literally.

maybe there is a way to use wicked-high output LED's as an H3 replacment bulb?

yeah... but my fog lights arent worth $250 to me, especially since id only buy one from NOB or the like. my fog lights have gotten wet, even will FULL under pinnings on the car and they will continue to get wet... so the ONLY HID kit id ever consider is one that is guaranteed to be waterproof, as in, throw it in a bucket of water and the shit still lights up.

im not ballin enough to put HID's in my fog lights so i can have wicked good light 10-15' in front of my car. i have to save that money to figure out HID's for the headlights.

a retro fit would be neat, but theres no way i can make a housing deep enough to accomodate an S2000 projector or any other honda projector like a TSX or TL (Which are some of the highest quality ones available). again, my fog lights arent worth the effort.

make it look race! pull the fog lights off and stick a tube going from the pass. side fog light area to your intake.

Maybe you can get one of those HIDs from a S2000 and fit them into the fog light housing.

That's exactly what i'm trying to do, problem is I need a couple 89+ housings to try/work on. So if anyone has some damaged 89+ fog lights housings, I'd like to have them........if it works out, they would get a completed set! ;)

done right (like mine), they're as sealed as the stock lights (which is pretty damn well)

and your pricing is way off, through the GB I got hi/lo bixenon HID headlights and HID fogs for less than $400

well, i would only do it locally because my friend at the shop in town sells the kits for $250 each with lifetime warranty on everything. id rather do it in person than have to mail my stuff off and wait for someone else to get around to it. so its $250 for any kit, any color, any style and lifetime warranty ;)

btw, i have a spare set of 89+ fog lights that would be perfect for cutting up. they are complete except one is missing the retainer ring.

my stock fog lights are 100% original, 74k miles on them, untouched. when i took them apart to change the bulbs, there was water inside the lip of the boot. also moisture had gotten inside the boot iself because the Bulb backing is oxidized. the fog lights are not waterproof sir. ;)

not waterproof, but HID's aren't effected by a little moisture anyway (just like any other light)

I've driven in rain and through puddles with mine, no issues yet...

OT: HOLY SHIT its flubyux, me and will where wondering where the hell you went too! WB!

As for the fogs, I think it would kick ass, but I don't think it would go well with yellow head lights. Either both white or both yellow. just my opinion though.

grrr... photobucket is down, so I can't host my pics that where taken with my crappy digicam (really good one is the g/f's, and my sorta good one is broken)

HID's with normal foglamps didn't look right, HID's in both is great and a little condensation is ALWAYS going to get into the housings...

I would be MORE concerned with getting LED's and their resisters, ect waterproofed...

sup Dead... ive been jaded on the MK3 stuff for a while. i just got my black car on the road after all these years so now im motivated to become a little more active.

Poodles... alot of the retrofit LED lights are epoxied to be sealed. so i was thinking i would probably just do that to seal out the moisture. or silicone even.

don't worry about it, the housing HAS to vent as the heating and cooling of the housing needs a way out.

all OEM lights have vents, none are 100% sealed

it's minor, the BEST thing you can do though is pull the lamps out and clean the hell outta the inside. Mine looks 100% better since I did, but I'd still like new ones as they get sandblasted from the roadgrime...

as it is now, I'm looking into doing LED conversions for all exterior lights as the HID's are nice and modern looking, but the rest is a bit dull...
