I agree. The real leather is so nice and smells awesome. Had I known, I might have even opted to pay the extra $300 for full real leather.

yeah, after looking at the pictures more closely, i can see the leather tekdeus has is different from the ones that was sent to me. tekdeus' is missing the long vertical stitch that goes alongside the red.

seems now like either a manufacturing mistake or they used the wrong pattern for his seat. probably a mistake as the pattern they used for mine seem to be correct.

Any chance you can post of photo of your leatherseats.com rears? So you're saying yours have the long vertical stitch and mine doesn't? I can see that mine is missing and would not look as good as the stock pattern, let alone the top being way too small.

pictures as promised.

here is the rear. the leather is loose because it is not hogtied to the frame. i have some surface rust i want to take care of before i tie it to the frame. it is hogtied to the foam though. as you can see, it looks almost exactly like stock.

a comparison between the stock (white) and leatherseats (pink) turned insideout. this is the top headrest and the new one actually looks wider.
insideout_top.jpg

the bottom of the seat looks perfect.
insideout_bottom.jpg

the biggest problem is the lowest horizontal stitch is too high. however i was able to easily hogtie it to the foam and it looks fine installed so its not really a problem.
insideout_side1.jpg

now this side does look a bit smaller than stock but i dont think it will cause any problems.

Thanks for the pics! I'll look into this. I did the bottom seat and although very tight, it seems to fit much nicer.

One important pointer though! I read on SF that the fit is much better when you re-use the steel wires from the stock seats for the pleated areas. I did this and it came out much tighter in those areas, compared to using the felxible thread they give you. The stock steel wire is hardened steel and I could not cut it with snips or a hacksaw. I used a dremel cut-off tool btw.

yeah i reused the steel wires. heck, i dont even remember getting flexible thread. maybe they left it out of my kit. or more likely, its somewhere in the bottom of my closet next to the seat heaters.:dunno:

not sure what you mean by cheap, but it does look better in person. if you are referring to the loose look, thats only because its not atatched to the frame. once i do that, it will look tight like stock.

Does anyone have a cost comparison between these leather "kits" and say a good quality upholstery shop?

I think a good qualified shop might do a better job of it. I've never seen (in person) one of these do it yourself leather interiors, but I would imagine that it's only going to look as good as your install.

screaminglemon, do you have any pics of the full set installed in the car? What colour was your stock interior/exterior? I want a black/grey leather interior but I can't deciede if I want black outsides with grey accents or the other way around. I already have black leather center console/shift boot/e-brake boot and floor mats.

That's great, thanks. That gives me a really good idea about what it would look like.

I would still like some pics from screaminglemon so I can compare. Thanks again.

sorry. i havent installed it yet. ive really been dragging my feet on this project and i have a few other things that still take priority. brakes recently went out on my DD and the clutch is about to give up the ghost any day now. its also got a bad CV joint. i guess its not too bad for a 215000 mile subaru.

anyway, when i finally get the leather installed, i will be sure to post pics. just dont hold your breath.
