there is a hose directly behind the exhaust manifold that began leaking antifreeze. I just replaced my turbo and drove 60 miles. Went to drive back and this started. What is this hose from? What caused this? Do i have bigger problems? Thanks

That hose goes into the firewall for heater iirc. The hose if orig is old probably started rotting from the inside from age. the heat from turbo and exh just weakened it. When you replace it use a worm style hose clamp, seem to work much better than pinch type in my experience

Not sure if its ever been replaced before. I wrapped it in some crappy tape at the store I was at and was able to drive it the 20 miles to a schucks, then got a new cap and hose clamp. And yes, I hate those pinch type hose clamps.
thanks for the responses,
Alex

I replaced mine when I did my BHG job and the new hose leaked after a little more than a year. That hose always gives me problems. If that hose leaks on me now, I get the whole neck assembly brand new. It's only ~15-20 bucks for the whole thing and makes sure that hose wont leak for a while.

There are actually a couple problem spots back there, depending on the year of your car.
- There is the heater union hose, that comes off the back of the head. Simple elbow.
- There is the head to heater control valve - bit longer, with some odd bends in it.
- If you have the older system, there is a rubber cap over one of the heater hardpipes.

If you're running without the exhaust manifold heat shields, or without the turbo hotside shield, count on all of these going on a regular basis.

While this is true, those are all trouble spots (I have the old system), I wouldn't go so far as to say 'regular basis', but I would definitely be leery. I've been running no turbo heat shield for over three years going and over 20K miles with no issues. A couple of these hoses are actually still from the engine bay fire a few years ago and holding perfect :)

Of course, now that I said something I'm going to have them all blow out within the next month lol

^been at school the past 5 years so everywhere i'd drive is within a mile unless its home. The problem is it takes 30 minutes sometimes to get there from the overwhelming.
