Lawn mower question

Ive been having my niece(w/ her dads help) mow my lawn lately because I had foot surgery. They ran out of gas in the mower(4stroke push mower) and without asking me filled it from a can in the garage. Problem being, the can was gas for the weed eater so it was mixed with 2cycle oil.

I never bothered to label because I never thought anyone would be using my gas cans lol. I always know, big can gas w tih stabil / little can gas oil mix.

They ran it after putting the gas in and said it ran just fine. Im going to drain the fuel but will there be any other problems? Should I check anything or replace the spark plug or just leave it?

my uneducated guess would be that if it ran good, that it won't be a problem. After draining, you may get some smoke, as it burns off the oil though. How long did they run it with that in it though?

I dont know, they did the backyard and maybe part of the front so 15-20 minutes run time.

Edit...
I just thought more about it, I have no clue how long it ran lol. 1-20 minute range is now my best buess.

It will be just fine just might smoke a little the next time you or they mow the lawn. I little extra oil never hurts anything.

On a side note the GF did the same thing to my Toro lawn mower last year. She came in asking if she broke it because "it was smoking a lot after I put gas in it". I asked her what gas can she used (small or big), she said small and I started busting out in laughter. I told her that is the gas for the weed wacker, It has extra oil in it. I think she felt like a 3tard bescause she said I knew that I must have had just a blond moment and forgot. LOL

Your mower should be fine.

Agreed. Drain and refill, the new, fresh gas will remove any oil that is left behind.

You might want to change the spark plug, but i don't think it will have even hurt it.

Yeah, check it out and maybe clean it with some gas. Let it dry before putting it back in.

Like everyone else said, it'll be fine. I've done it many times when I had no other gas. If you're still worried about the carb, pour a couple of caps of B12 in the tank.

You can run whatever you want in those motors. They are like 5:1 compression stock. The oil may even be good for the valves and cylinder wall. dont even clean the spark plug its not worth the time. I have had briggs motor to 6000+ rpms and blown up at least 5 of them. Ran nitro fuel, rubbing alcohol, stale gas, gas with dirt, everything you can think of through a brigges motor. They never quit. Me and my friends around here used to have little gokart races and the only rules where that it had to have all stock 5hp parts on the outside. I bored my motor out about 1/4 inch (huge difference for a motor with a 2 inch bore). shaved head. lightened and polished crank and rod. thin single layer head gasket. lightened 7.5 hp lawn mower piston. One shaped like a car piston not the can style stock one. about half the weight. Cut my own keyway to advance the ignition timing. Huge mirror polished ports. Bored carb. I even modified a 10hp cam to work. Added about 30% more lift, and a tiny bit of duration. Custom ground 10hp valves, lifters and springs. The motor from my guess made about 12-14 hp and as much torque. And it screamed! I think the stock one needle carb and cam duration were really the only things holding it back from real high rpm power. And the rods snapping in half lol

Ive seen some crazy stuff done with these motors too. Im just trying to make mine last the long haul so I try to baby it lol. Every winter I replace the spark plug, oil, air filter and blade. I always keep gas with stabil around for it and never let it get too old.

Ive almost waxed the deck on it a few times just to keep it new and shiny!
