I know how it is having a relative fuck your ride up. I'm sorry to hear that man.
My mom got my first car to spin 180 degrees in a busy intersection after being hit by one of those 2 ton Isuzu flat bed diesels.
That car was and still is my life. I was devastated with having to replace the front end sheet metal on my car. You got lucky. A bumper cover replacement and some plastic epoxy is a walk in the park compared to what my mom fucked over on my '68 Dodge Charger when it was K.O.'d by that truck. It took me 2 YEARS to track down the parts to fix everything, but I didn't give up and it payed off.
I know the feeling of seeing the damage for the first time. It sucks the life out of you. Don't let the bastards grind you down!
My '68 Charger is in my garage as happy as can be now and my mom doesn't touch my keys. So what if other people don't like your car. It's perpose in life is to make you happy, no matter what the fuck the drivetrain or body looks like or comes from. They are all just fucking cars in the end and it doesn't matter where it all comes from as long as you like it and are happy with it. It may not suit other peoples wants or needs or liking, but that's why it's YOUR car and not theirs.
I have my opinions about your car and others and I have my ideas of what looks good and what doesn't, but that's what I think and I can do the things I like to my cars and you do what YOU like to your car.
Just go fish a used rebar for behind the car and use a hair dryer to releive the damage from the bumper cover. Get yourself some flexible glazing putty and a sanding block with some 180 grit paper and fix it. I like the Bomex idea over what you have now. Just keep up on it or if you just don't think it's worth the trouble, sell it and start with something else that you like.
Whatever you decide to do, make sure that you weigh it's value in time and effort spent against the value of how much you will like the final product. If you decide to fix it or sell it for something else.
Good luck man!
