Hey Everyone,

Welcome to my build on a budget thread. Now unfortunately not everyone in life has an unlimited bankroll to throw at their car. This build is good for a younger crowd, or someone who doesnt want to sink $20,000+ in a 20 year old car, but still want it to look and run good. To those of you that have I salute you, I am not dissing that in any way. :)

Ok here she is when I got her.

You cant really tell from the pics, but there is a mild side swipe on the drivers door, bad bodywork, bondo cracking on the passanger pillar between the door and hatch. Other misc door dings, dents etc. :3d_frown:

Forgot to add I got her with 121,000 on the clock for $2000 1987 turbo 5 spd hardtop

More posts to come!

Ok, now some people might not mind a navy blue interior, but I am not so fond of it...lol

So it had to go :evil2:

With the interior striped, I took the lazy mans way out and dyed the dash in the car. First I cleaned it with a special plastic prep designed to remove all contaminents, like built up crud, armor all, etc. Then I was able to cover the windshield by using a large cardboard box I unfolded. There is enough space to slide the cardboard between the back of the dash and the windshield. I had the cluster and everything else removed already so I started to spray away with the special primer made for plastics and vinyl's. Once that was done I sprayed the black dye. I used a flat dye because I thought it might look like a newer style dash, but if I were to do it again I would use gloss. I might redo it, not sure yet.

Since I had the cluster out I upgraded to white gauges and a brushed alum bezel. All for the whopping total of $45 shipped thanks to ebay :naughty: Also upgraded to a 89+ climate control, looks so much better. Forgot what I paid for that, maybe $40-50 dunno. So for a whopping $100 I made my dash look much more modern and better.

The camera made the lights way brighter then they are in real life for some reason.

Ok, well now I have a stripped interior with a black dash. I think I need some more pieces to finish it off...lol Dyed most pieces black including the headliner. It all came out pretty good with the exception of the plastic kick panels that go underneath the door. The dye has eventually started to rub off there. Can't really blame it though that piece gets a rediculous amount of wear on it. I will probably replace them with either grey stock ones, or the metal aftermarket ones.

I got some nice grey door inserts for the front and back from a donor car in a junkyard, also got grey rear seats as well. Plus a whole bunch of misc plastic panels. I think he charged me a whopping $20 bucks for everything. Lesson: junkyards can be your friend ;)

Got a steering wheel and hub adaptor for $90, ebrake handle cover $10, nice leather TRD shift boot $15, Grey front seats $100, New black carpet $120, grey seat belts $50. Decided to splerge and got some aftermarket gauges. Got a Ac Autotechnic Oil presure, Water Temp and Boost gauges for about $120, I was very happy with the quality of the gauges, they look very well made, also got a generic 3 pod pillar mount for $20. S-AFC and A/f light display came with the car. Total for this round $525 whew this is starting to add up :icon_conf

Once again, the camera made the lights wicked bright, I would go blind if they were like that in real life :biglaugh:

i need new carpet so bad:nono:

Thanks man! I'm not done yet :evil2:

I got mine off of ebay for 120 ish, fit great, had to do some trimming but that is to be expected with any carpet unless you are buying a used OEM one. Make sure you save the green plastic strips off your old carpet if you do!

Rear Skirts were pretty easy, held on my two bolts in the rear wheel well, and one bolt under the rear bumper. For keeping them close to the sides of the rear bumper I tried using heavy duty double sided 3m tape, but it sucked and started pealing away, so I just epoxied those fuckers on :icon_evil

Next, the sideskirts were pretty easy, two bolts in the rear wheelwell, two underneath, and one or two inside the door. Needed some minor grinding with a dremel tool.

Yeah the Front is coming up :)

The color is a secret for now :naughty:

89+ taillight is one of the easiest best looking mods imo, its plug and play for the most part. I was able to modify my lock from the 87 to fit in the 89+ housing.

Looking pretty sweet Kyle................

Thanks man, your car is also  I love your color blue it is probably one of the best looking blue supra's I have seen. I almost went blue because of your car, but I was limited in my color choices and wasnt 100% happy with the blues available to me.

Ok, now for the front :evil2:

Removed pretty much everything in the front. Had to sorce a 89+ nose cone $75 and turn signals + little grills $40 This wasnt too bad, I might drill out the two front holes in the bumper and raise it a 1/4 inch or so, its a tad low. I re-used the stock cross braces for the bumper. I attached them to the fiberglass bumper with 3000lb epoxy, its not going anyware trust me . I am going to have to use a bit more bracing for the front as it still has a little flex to it at highway speeds. I have some aluminum I am going to use to make brackets to make it nice and stiff.

Oh yeah the rims and tires I got for $200, tires are pirelli's 235/45/17

Forgot to add 89+ spoiler $120, 89+ tail lights $100. 89+ brake light failure sensor $10, crossdrilled rotors and pads $200

So far total this round $745 whew!

Very nice job on the interior man. It definitley looks updated.
I had AC Autotechnic gauges in my other Supra and loved it. It had a nice color combo and worked flawlessly.

Great to see a build like this where things are done within a certain budget and tastefully as well.

What color for the Exterior? Black I hop e:) ( Sorry I am biased that way ) lol
Great job.
