Knocking...

I listen to this noise that my supra makes after the oil filter gasket gave on the highway going too fast.

i added oil / new filter and this is what it sounds like when it is running...

does anyone know what specifically in the engine could be making this sound, or if a rebuild might fix it up?

BTW: the noise starts at an idle, then I rev it up when it gets faster, and I am almost stalling out when it gets slower (brake + let clutch up)

did not play the link but im sure you have rod knock...how much oil did you lose? doesnt take much of a oil starvation to throw a rod bearings on these engines

I honestly don't know... the sound is like a hollow pining sound... was hoping someone would listen to the link and let me know

from the sound can anyone tell if the engine is salvageable, an anchor, or is it impossible to tell from sound?

Sounds like RK to me.

It can be rebuilt probably, I had one that thru the rod, still rebuilt it. You really won't know until it's it's tore down how bad things are.

Sure wouldn't be running it any until you find out, could throw the rod and cause a lot more damage.

this to me sounds completely different to my current problem. see my thread on rod knock mate. i posted a vid in there with my cars engine running from idle up to approx 2.5k rpm

i picked up a new oil filter today from toyota. gonna cut the old one up and see whats inside
