I'm investigating The Common Knocking noise(which on mine was a constant Loud knock...i doubt it is a bent rod...i was thinkin that is was a rod bearing)...I am Sure it is not the valves but The engine needs a rebuild anyways.

here are some pictures of the head i got off today

Clean up
p555003_6.jpg

Yeah it's coming along great The head gasket was in bad shape but at least solid when i took it off...The piston walls were not scorned but a noticed that all the pistons looked like they have had fuel in them(Carbon build up ETC.) except the third which was dry and Clean... no build up...Weird...Plus there were 2 or 3 valves that were White and looked almost burnt or something...real rough but there looked to be no bent/chipped valves....

anyways any info could help

im confused your investagating a rod knock by taking the head off why not pull the engine filp it over and take off the pan

exactly my question.

and a cleaned cylinder and/or sparkplug means you were burning coolant in that cylinder and it steam-cleaned the carbon right off.... or at least removed some of it. check the gasket and see which cylinders actually blew.

See the car has about 53000 miles on it and has a knocking noise...
Well the gasket was fine no broken parts but it was in pretty bad shape...it needed replacing anyways...well the knocking noise was coming from the top end(but that could transfer...but the stethascope thing i used sould like from top end)...so i thought there might be a bent valve or something...even though it is a non interfearence head(because it did jump timing)...i'm going to pull the whole engine but i do not have my engine lift here yet SO...i did what i could with it in the car...some redneck mechanic said it was a bent rod just by the sound.....but i doubt it...he wanted to take another motor out of a cressida and slap in there....for a lot of money....I was like...I COULD rebuild or get another motor this myself....so here i am...more pics on the way...

I'm betting it is number 3 because of the piston being clean and like Figit090 said about the coolant even though the head gasket was still solid(also there was a guy that had a 88 turbo just like mine that was in my toyota "TTen" class and he had the same noise from the front of the engine like mine...he said the number 3 piston would MOST likely be the problem(Not the piston itself but the rod, bearing etc)......i was like how do you know!?...he said he's had a bunch Of supras and all of them have had the problem at least once...so we'll see :aigo: ).....It might have hydrolocked...though i bet teh gasket was leaking......I just got a engine lift...i'm going to remove the engine today...Pics by tonight...:icon_bigg

Hey the old stuff is about the only "stuff" that lasts or works now-a-days....Seriously the stuff i've used on this car was my great grandfathers from like the 20's 30's(Tools,chains,etc) LOL...The new stuff we have broken or bent......i was like :wtf:!?...That is why i like my nova....it just runs...Even though it gets bad gas mileage... it's simple and won't die...lol....that is also why i like the mark III supra...It's a Tank(FOR a foreign car) and is Fairly simple...cept for all the dang vacuum lines...but it's all good!

But we disconnected the tranny, all the grounds, connectors...everything...except the mounts...The engine is coming out today....Right after some lunch:naughty:

Pics by tonight...

Me riding the engine while on the lift after i got it out of the car....lol....kinda like the old movie where the guy rides the nuke out the back of plane...Or on Armageddon...where he rides the nuke....ANYWAYS...it was a must...
p561594_6.jpg

The video of what went wrong in my engine....Sorry if i sound stupid or if i don't know what i'm talking about or something...If i'm correct it had a slung rod bearing....lol....just listen...plus that is just pollen on my car...damn pine trees...

....i did everything you see here in 7 hours....with a lunch...YAY....plus i've never pulled a engine before...so i think i did pretty good....Now the REAL fun begins:boink:...lol

Fully loaded parts house. Talk to dave at ext. 103 and tell him mike sent you.
I just ordered over a grand in parts on friday the 23rd and I recieved everything no problems by tuesday the 27th. These guys know there parts and it was ZERO hassle dealing with them I wish I could say that about the incompetant pukes at my local toyota dealership.

I spoke to a few people there and Dave is the one guy that would answer my questions return my calls and work with me on the shipping. Quallity service and parts all the way. If that is of interest to you. Dial ext 103 as soon as the automated pick up starts yammering.

Another thing about Dave is he won't just sell you parts you don't need because you want them if he can't find a way to make it work for you. He follows everything up with e mails and shipped all of it directly to my front door. I don't push for anyone. But after being burnt on ebay...., HPF dude.

I'm glad to hear that it isn't just my dealership being lazy. These cats will find any reason they can to get off the line with you along with an entire list of specified toyota reasons that they can not look for your parts. Forget that.
