took the car out this morning code 52. now am def not a noob when it comes to wiring so i know my wiring job is good, this is also my 2nd knock sensor, and the first one does the same, and i know the 2nd one came off a working motor. so maybe my ecu? does anyone have a spare 88 turbo ecu that they wanna sell me for cheap?

ok here are some conclusions that lead me to the ecu. i just checked my wiring with a multi meter and there is no connectivity between my sheild and my center wire on the thinnet so wiring checks out (ecu harness unplugged from ecu). but i noticed as soon as i connect the harness back into the ecu i am getting some resistence between the ground and the KS signal wire. is this normal? the ecu seems to have a internal short if i am not mistaken

nah, something is amiss, here. grab your multimeter, set it to continuity check, (usually has a beeping sound when you touch the probes together)

now, touch one probe to your ground, and the other to the signal wire. any continuity?

double check that you have continuity between your ECU connection, and the KS connection. a new KS connector wouldn't hurt, either. P/N: 82219-89103

i wouldn't EVER re-use an old connector like that, especially if a new one is so cheap!

also, when i made a knock sensor rewire harness for s383mmber1's car here on the forums, i did it differently than you did. he's also got an N/A->T using GTE electronics.

i made the pigtail on the KS harness, meaning that instead of soldering the two KS inputs together, i simply made a U shaped piece of wire going from one signal wire to the other. it works flawlessly. :)

Knock sensors don't normally fail, and it's rare that you'll get two that are toasted one right after the other. i'm betting that your wiring isn't up to snuff quite yet. stop throwing parts at the car and diagnose it. ;)

no continuity when i touch the ground and the signal wire, there is continuity the wire. i haven't done the new KS connector, i will have to order one. BUt i have tried two different connectors that i had lying around, is it possible that since its cold out i am somehow trapping some moisture in the connector and that is causing problems? i'm tempted to go out and buy some dielectric grease to see if that will work

after work i'm going to get some wd40 to clean the connections, then i'll put on some dielectric grease. good idea? meanwhile i'll order a new connector

ok i'm gonna pass on the dielectric grease idea after doign some research, but i'll go and clean connections with some wd40 during lunch.

i know theres not many answers, but i am going to keep this thread updated anyway for future reference, but i cleaned the connections, problem went away for a couple days and came back, i just built a bracket that will hold the 2nd knock sensor, we'll see how this goes

so adapter plate did not work, the engine light came immediatly on. I did however notice how my cressida and supra KS are slightly diff lengths, so right now i am trying out the cressida KS connector with the supra KS. Before i was using the supra KS connector with the supra KS, but i was having problems then switched over to the complete cressida setup. I am now trying the cressida connector with the supra KS. I did a quick drive to see if the light came out, drove pretty hard so far so good but we'll see how it all goes tomorrow morning (this is usually when the lights pops back up)
