Well, I just killed 3/4 gear in my R154.... this is the 4th trans. My car does make over 500 flywheel hp.

I have not had a thrust washer failure yet. I lost second gear in one trans, one I broke a shift fork in, and I've had two loose third and 4th gear.

You can click the shifter into one of those two gears, but its not there. no noise, no nothing.

Story behind it breaking:

One day, it got hard to shift for no reason. I wasn't romping on it or anything(but only 3/4 shift)

The next day, I accelerated in 4th gear a little... when it hit boost, it poped out of gear. When I tried to put it back in... no gear.

So I went to 5th. Normal. Tried third and it just poped back out. After that, no third either. All other gears work perfectly normal.

Did you find the problem? I have done the same to 2 R154's. They become hard to shift when under alot of boost. Mine pops out of 1st and 2nd sometimes and 2nd wasn't there once.

I'll get around to tearing it down, and I'll put up lots of pics, just like last time. Just gotta find time to do it.

Yes, I always use the clutch, and don't power shift.

As for driving lessons, go look at my track vids... I'm fairly sure I can drive.

No no I am not making it a bad thing , I had a 10 sec ls1 TA for 3 years I ran 10's on the stock rear (3years)no one said it could be done. I knew it was all about preloading it on the line and easy 2nd that kept it alive one day at a shootout I got over excited and dropped the hammer hard and coasted over the 60 ft mark about 10 sec after my driveshaft (snapped it off at the rear pinion) Just checking to see if you ever had one of those monents it only takes 1 to kill some parts.

ive busted 2 r154's. first one i lost 2nd, then after driving awhile from 1st to 3rd, it finally wouldnt go into 1st. that was a LONG drive home from the ex gf's house taking off from 3rd gear wit ha 4 puck clutch isnt fun. that was a 1hr drive. my disc was shot and needs rebuilt now, no biggie, i had another ready to go in wit ha stronger pp. 2nd one, lost 1st gear and had to start in 2nd. swapped it that weekend, didnt bother driving much on it liek that. 1st one i gave to a buddy as they needed it for mocking up a 7m swap into a corrolla. 2nd one i still have and will prolly pull apart at some point to see what broke and possibly rebuild it. also, all the w58's i broke, always had chunks of gears come ut when i drained the fluid to drop the trans to swap it. never bothered taking them apart as it was fairly obvious i stripped teeth on the gears. lol. now this is why im putting a t56 in there.

I've busted 4 R154's my self, only my first trans had a busted washer, and a few gears bit the dust too.. that was a friend of mine driving it down the track too... All the main bearings ended up fuxored too the ball bearing inside the bearing was smooshed and the bearing no longer worked. I don't know how i made it home.

Now for the other tranmissions same thing they just shot out of gear underload... For All of the transmissions it turned out that one of the bearings had borken which was causing it to shoot out of gear... Once it was 2nd to 3rd another was 5th! and another was 2nd to 3rd again...

I fully rebulit my last transmission with a full bearing kit, syncros ect... only thing that wasn't chnaged was the gears... I haven't had much driving on that transmission however, it's been very hard to change gears quickly underload ever since the rebulid. I'm going to have my tranny guy take it apart and look it over to see what's going on and also have him change the syncro's to orignal toyota ones instead of the NSK ones that came with the rebulid kit.

I really don't know what it is but I've all but given up on the r154... Next transmission will be a TKO like IJ did for sure.

PS in the full rebulit transmission i added a custom machined thrust washer that was made out of some molly alloy but a race transmission place... http://www.api-racing.com/ was the palce that made it for me ... they are local.
