solobaric. And they do get pretty loud, especially the L7 (the L5 is shit). And, you wouldn't need an "expensive" amp, just not a crap one. There are brands out there that make quality amps for sub JL prices.

However, you can get speakers that sound crisper, deeper, clearer, and get just as loud...

thanks for the input, the reason I ask about these is because a friend of mine has 2 of them brand new in the box. and I can get them for a really good price. all I would need is amps... But looking at my trunk area with the targa I have no idea how I would like to install them.. so if any one has these installed I would REALLY like to see some pics... worst case I could just buy 1 and mount it in the spare tire area but I really would love to have both.

Thanks.

Don't waste your money on these things. They're absolute 100% marketing scam grade a certified JUNK. If you'd like to know more let me know.

They're not THAT bad. They get pretty freakin loud, and have decent build quality. If you want to talk about marketing junk, talk about RF or Audiobahn.

RF isn't all that bad in my opinion. Do they overhype their low end junk, yes. Audiobahn on the other hand is grade a certified flame-series DOG SHIT. (pun intended)

I'm actually looking at picking up a set of HX2's from a co-worker, simply because he's dumping them for cheap. And we won't even talk about the T2's :)

Ideally, I'd have a pair of 12" Treo SSi's in my car with 3 zapco 750.1 amps. 1 per sub, and 1 to power my front components, which I'd probably also swap out for some 6.5" SSi comps.

square subs will push alot more air than what a circular sub would making it better for spl. but you have a supra or what not, and you are probably looking for sound quality. square subs are shit for quality sound, best bet would to stick with a circular sub. the kicker comp vr's are really good subs

I have mostly Kicker equipment in my supra, love every bit of it. Their Amps are great, I have been pushing 1400 WRMS out of my Kicker 1200.1 for over a year and a half now, no problems what so ever, not even a blown fuse. and I have another kicker amp powering my 4 speakers, finally a kicker crossover. If I had the choice to build another sound system, I would use kicker equipment again. I have a lot of friends and saw a lot of cars in meetings and what not, mine is not the loudest, but definitely the clearest, you can hear the mids and highs very clearly and the bass is just deep and powerful like someone hitting you on the back of your head. that's more than enough system for me, i didn't build it to win competitions or shows or anything, I listened to a lot of the available subs on the market when i was buying mine, JL and Kicker were the only two i really liked, JL had some reliability issues back then and was and still is more expensive, so I went with Kicker.
it will all depend on how you build your system, and the placement of speakers is key.

Your going to make me cry. Ive got 2 L5's.
I hit 140.3 with 2 of them.
What gives you the authority to say that they are shit? They may not be the best but for only $100 they arent that bad.

SQ leaves a lot to be desired and they're not very efficient. For example, one 18" Elemental designs ov2 (cost ~ 215), and it'll hit 151db. So for $15 more than your two kickers, this sub went louder. Now thats if you've just got your head up your ass and are a db whore. That ov2 sub has amazing sq for being 18". I was so impressed i bought a 12".

My point is, they're not shit like pyle or audiobahn, but most of what you're paying for is the image. What gives me the authority? I've heard a LOT of speakers in a LOT of different cars. Post or search on any audiophile forum and you'll see that alot better can be had than a kicker.
