, a dealer within an hr from me is advertising brand new 08 kia rio's of 8995.00, under 9 K

I got a reliable 92 accord with 191000 miles on it, an is way over due for a timing belt change. Kelly blue book.com says for a good condition trade is worth about 1400.

if I put down about a grand or so, an pending what they offer me for a trade, I might get it, ....

if I can get a 100 a month car payment, I'm getting it no questions...

you guys think I should get it ?

it would be a only a work car for me for when I go out on the road for my nuclear road trips. So within about 4 years or so, it would pay for itself an it gets like 32 miles highway an about 27 city....

this way I wouldnt have to take the Xterra that needs min 92 oct....

My aunt had a Rio [older one], it sucked. The clutch would always fry and it just sucked to get things fixed on it. Sure it gets great gas mileage. But it looks like crap and is built even worse. Oh and the engine seized up on it. Great stuff. Its sitting dead up at my grandpas ranch, being a house for lil insects and stuff. hah

I dont know if the newer ones improved any, but I just have to say.. I would NEVER drive a Kia.

My aunts was like a 2000 or something like that. she bought it brand new. Went through like 4 clutches and then seized up. Total value of it now = less than a box of matches. Interior and exterior is still "nice" [about as nice as its ever gonna get for a rio]. She didnt even finish paying it off and it had this shit happen to it. hah she drives our 89 Jeep Commanche [which are REALLY reliable, and VERY cheap to fix, but lack in gas mileage, like any jeep with the 4.0L I-6]. Another Jeep will probably be my next DD again. [I used to have a 91 cherokee, it was awesome.] Or like a 4th gen prelude.

the money I get to live off of while at work, would pay for the car in just a few years, then , I'd just junk it or trade it etc,, for another,,,

just loooking for something for work that I dont care about putting on a shit load of miles on...

being that the honda is nearing 200 K

Yeah can't vouche for these cars, my mom has a 03 hyndai thing only has not even 80k on it and it's a piece already had the motor sieze up as she was pulling in the driveway. I wouldn't do it. Get the timing belt changed, use honda, better car.

I just helped a friend of mine purchase a 2005 civic with 18k miles on it for about the same money. It was certified and has a full warranty to 48k and a powertrain warranty to 100k or 2012.

He got a great deal, but they are out there to be found. I would be more comfortable going that route (you have warranty, reliability, and value). Heck, I'd even rather have a focus than a rio.

Yeah, she drove it a lot. She used to drive like 45 minutes everyday on Houston freeways. So she passed 100k miles pretty quick I believe. But I dont know if they offered that warranty with hers. For some reason I recall like a 45k mile warranty and 2 year on that one. Either way, I worked on that car. Quality is CRAP! Everything is SOOO cheap, its amazing that they even drive at all.

Why dont you just change the timing belt and keep the accord? My friend had his done [98 accord v6] by the dealership, and it was like $500 for parts and labor, not bad considering its a fair bit of labor.

And why not get like a scion or something? May cost a lil more but atleast the quality on those arent so bad. And itd still be a Toyota :p

Yeah, It kind of brings me back to when the rio still was around hah. Its like, we had my aunts 2000 rio and my friends 92 accord. And we'd always take the accord.

Id prefer the accord, theyre crazy reliable. REALLY cheap to maintain and get great gas mileage. It also looks a whole lot better, hah I even think the old 92 Accord design is better looking than the 08 Rio. :p So id fix the belt.

That is DAMN cheap for a new car though.. Makes you wonder how much replacement parts cost, or how cheap the replacement parts are made.

The timing belt isn't that hard to change on an accord its tight but there are alot worse cars out there to work on. The hardist part is getting the damn crank pully bolt broke loose.
