are the jz intercoolers the same as the ma70?

if so then i wouldn't run past 300 hp with it. you can get an intercooler for $160 and it will make a difference. when i put mine on i was amazed how much better it felt. i totally wasn't expecting a gain like that.

the stock intercooler would be ok for your hp goals, but diy intercooler kits are really inexpensive nowadays. also the jza70 intercooler is bigger than the ma70.

Yeah its actually bigger than the ma70 I'd say 3" longer and the I/C pipes go in one end and come out of the other, unlike the ma70 where the pipes obviously go in and exit the same side

What sort of gains did you notice from an aftermarket intercooler? more hp, laggier etc?

im running my 60-1 single setup on stock JZ IC and stock JZ IC pipes.......lolol yea they fit. its amazing, but will be upgrading the IC once i get my new 90 shell in a few weeks ;)

as for the original question. 400 CRANK HP will be fine. 400whp will be ok too but would be more efficient obviously on a 24X12X3

made 395whp on the stock twins untuned (9:1 a/f) through the stock balloon piping and Intercooler, the 1jz intercooler is the largest OEM FMIC out.

that is my 31.5x8x3.5 Precision FMIC against the stock 1j front mount. The stock 1j IC is 24x12x2.75 pretty decent size. Ive seen cars make upwards of 450whp on them, however they heat soak and flow like absolute crap at that hp level...

I didn't think the stock twins had that sort of power in them! Just goes to show toyota is king

I know the AEM ems made the biggest difference.

so if a stock ic is capable of that much hp at that level, how does it compare to aftermarket of similar size at say 280-300hp? is it about the same? little more? a lot more?

i wouldnt trust it for anything more than 10psi, theyre arnt the best of cooling cores. their design is completely different to your standard bar and plate

So general idea is that it can handle the horsepower but an aftermarket would be much better and release more HP and reduce charge temps?

It will allways help but IMHO not worth it at that level, i mean hell i put down 313whp on stock boost with just a full exhaust so thats stock levels.

LOL i was running 23psi on them maxing out the stock twins for awhile, true it heatsoaked after a pull or two, but it did fine. At 355-360whp i didnt loose much between pulls on the dyno. I do agree that after a certain point maybe 360-375 it would be a good idea to upgrade, but its not nesseccary.

Plus i deliberatly didnt upgrade my IC, i was running 23psi on the stock twins on stock cams, when i upgraded to crower 272/HKS 264 cams i couldnt boost over 18psi as the turbos now had to spin faster to produce the same boost. Well i was afraid if i got a good IC that flowed alot better than the stocker that i would have to go even lower, most likely it would have cooled better and i could have ran the same pressure.
