Thats one of the bigest problems with the factory ecu tune. At cruise when put under just enough load to build a few lbs of boost the ecu doesnt richen up and switch to open loop. These conditions will lead to detonation, and contribute to the 7m blowing factory head gaskets so easily. This is why you tune for your AFRs to switch to wot mix at any positive pressure or 3/4 throttle ish. Im not trying to argue with you I just think its an something to keep in mind when tuning. Lean will spool much better and create substantially more power but I like to stay on the safe side, even if it costs a some power overall.

Maybe a dumb question here; but, can the condition of part throttle detonation be corrected with a proper tune or is it something that we will always deal with unless we go stand-alone? If that's a big question just say so and I'll hunt the answer down myself. ;)

grim: Are you running the SP61? That's what's going on my car after I get my Maft and 550's in. It's on the bench ready to go.

yes you can tune it out, its just a matter of setting it up so it switches over to wot conditions as soon as there is positive manifold presure. You said you will be going maft pro soon correct?

Yep yep. Just a matter of installing it.

I'm currently in the middle of the vf and Maft information listed on mkiiitech.com. I want to get as much of the basics understood before I put it in.
