What kind of surgery was it? I got surgery on my shoulder about 2 months ago and they called it a SLAP repair, and it was because of range of motion.

I didn't have a normal injury. My shoulder being loose and dislocating out the back is somewhat rare. For me they experimented. The sutures that tightened my shoulder during the 2nd surgery came loose after 6 months, so on this last surgery they pulled up the tissue on the back side of my shoulder and anchored it to the bone in my shoulder. My doctor called the surgery shoulder stabilization. There's no real name for it. I remember my 1st surgeon saying something about my SLAP. He thought it might have gotten torn or stretched out, but it's fine. My shoulder is really wierd.

True but I've also seen some ugly things happen with people here on base. On the other hand I've seen outside docs mess some stuff up to. I just want more of a choice in docs when I go to get it done.

I can understand that. You have to remember one thing about doctors, every patient is different. That's why they call their clinics practices. It's not like working on an engine. Even a doctor with 20 years experience repairing shoulders can fuck it up or not know exactly what to do. In some cases, the military surgeons are better than the civilian surgeons because they aren't doing it for the money and a lot of military surgeons care more about the help they are providing for those who serve our country than anything else. I know my surgeon is an awesome guy who does good work. He even used my case for a medical paper and a couple other things so that he can help the rest of the medical community be better read on this particular type of injury.

Thats awesome you got a good doc to help you out. The ones I've talked to here have no intrest in me nor did they beleve me when I told them what was going on. I had to go in to the clinic with my arm almost in front of me to make them understand that I have a problem. (I got out of bed one day with my shoulder compleatly out.) Good times but I might try again when I get back to McGuire and see what they say since docs rotate every year or so.

Yeah, mine dislocated out of the front, I got three anchors in my shoulder and one of those is for my bicep tendon and the other two are in there somewhere. Good luck with your recovery, its been two months for me and physical therapy has already got me doing lateral raises with weight now.

Dislocations out the front are easy to repair. The body is built to prevent dislocating out the front. Out the back on the other hand there is almost nothing to work with. I dread my physical therapy. Last time it was 2-3 hours a day, 2 days a week. I don't have time for that.
