How the hell are cop cars so quiet, I swear all you hear is the road noise of the tires and the a/c kicking on!!!

Interesting idea anyways.

I thought having a complete interior did a fantastic job of sound deadening, compared to most all the other vehicles i've driven with the stereo off.

Have fun with it, it is sweet to have a silent vehicle immune to deafening road noise.

Probably be quieter, I think I would have masked a thing or two off, although it probably won't matter.

i enjoy listening to my car. You can hear if something is off even the slightest bit

...me too, I also like sharp pointy things sticking me in the eyes...that's just me, it may not be for everybody.:sarcasm:

not feelin it...

Supra would have been a lexus anyways, but lexus wasn't around yet. My car is quieter than my dad's 90's model camry... (well, except for the exhaust and stuff, but I'm working on that...)

A squeek or rattle is something wrong, fix it...

Most Supra's are fuckin' rattle traps cause nobody takes care of them.

I have spent countless hours isolating squeeks, rattles etc, it's not all that easy to get them all. However, it certainly can be done if your determined.

I'm not sure that sound deadening material of any kind is going to solve the real problem. For that you have to work at it.

Alright you bastards. I can't take it anymore. Believe it or not, the pics make the engine bay look alot less terrible than it actually does. The paint the guy applied is so freakin glossy that it blinds you. And with all the texture it is just awful.

I called my mechanic up and tore him a new one. He's going to see how hard it is to remove tomorrow and get back to me. If it's too much of a PITA, I think I'll just have him repaint it flat black. Hopefully the blingyness of the engine will draw away from the bay.

Thanks everyone for all your frank, honest opinions. I thought maybe it was just me who couldn't stand it.....guess not.

It was different tho. You gotta give me that. Hell, who knows? Maybe it woulda actually looked cool with everything back place. I'm not risking having to pull everything if/when it doesn't.

Back to square one.

Yeah, I was gonna say that it might not be so bad once the motor's back in. Heck- if you're building it for comfort, you don't need to be showing off the engine bay anyway.

No, the engine bay needs to be pristine. The entire car does with the amount of money I've wasted so far. This car is supposed to be fast, comfortable, and sexy. The engine bay looks like crude oil is thrown about it. It's gotta go, or the very least cleaned up and repainted flat black.

IF you want to sound proof the engine bay, do it on the OTHER side of the panels...

I know we're a bit cruel here, but it looked like he did a shitty job with covering bolts, ect...

My mechanic says the stuff does indeed come off (after paint remover, steam cleaning, and power washing). I'm only going to make him remove everything above the line in the picture, since anything below shouldn't really be noticable with the engine installed, and should help against rust.

The inner wells, under carriage, gas tank, and interior will still be completely coated in 2-4 layers of sound deadener and then painted. I'll take care of the interior myself. I don't trust the guys "masking" skills.

i didn't use rhino liner type crap for mine. It woudlnt be bad if it was a crinkle finish.

Where your line is, is somewhat what i did with many coats of sound deadening undercoating. I did pretty much the same but went right at the corner of the frame rail all the way around. the rest will get painted soon enuff.

My mspaint skills are non-existent. That line on the picture isn't exact. I'm only planning to keep from top of the frame rails down painted.
