Well, I had my engine bay completely stripped of all paint, power washed, 3 coats of Second Skin Sound Deadener Spray, followed by 2 coats of gloss black paint. Not really digging the Rhino Liner look, but it'll keep down road noise, never rust, and well.....it's different.

Next comes the under body, wheel wells, gas tank, and entire interior. 8 Gallons total. And since it's all waterbased, it adds less than 50lbs to the vehicle. This vehicle is going to be setup like a luxury car. Basically turning a Toyota into a Lexus. It'll have plenty of power. Engine setup for around 450whp (Supra Sport Stage 3 Turbo), but internals are good for 1000whp. So if it's still too slow, I can always install a larger turbo and injectors.

I'll add new pics as the project progresses.

you rhino-lined your TEMS caps and fasteners, and your steering rack?
Well, like you said, at least it'll be quiet.

I was disappointed to seet the lack of masking certain things off. However, as long as it doesn't hinder functionality, I guess it's ok. However, my mechanic is going to have to pull those TEMS covers anyways when he replaces the front suspension. So I'm sure he'll have fun prying those covers off. When I bitched at him the other day he replied "the bay isn't finished yet". So I'll cut him some slack until he says it's the finished product.

Oh, and the bay is sprayed with sound deadener, not Rhino Liner :biglaugh:

You can put gravel in that engine bay now and hose it clean after a load. :)

I'm guessing the only place that stuff made a differance is on the firewall.

I wasn't exactly jumping for joy when I saw the end result. Originally I told the guy just to spray the firewall. Unfortunetly it appears he had too much fun and decided to get the entire bay. I'm glad he likes the look. I'm really not digging it all that much. Luckily, the engine is still not in yet and the bay is still not final. I love the line-x jokes guys, but that's just the look of the deadener painted. It's actually the strongest sound deadening spray on the market. 2mm is supposed to do a great job.

I remember with past vehicles, there would always be little audible squeaks that would just drive me nuts. I don't want to have that at all with this car. And as far as buying a Lexus, the thought had crossed my mind, but I really dig the styling of the MarkIII's. I'm gutting it out and making it as nice and comfortable as possible.

Hopefully the bay won't look like total once the engines in it. Then again, it might. Which would piss me off since I have a crapload of cash tied up in this car.

Once the bay gets closer to being finished I'll post up some more pics and get your opinions.

As of now, do you guys think the "crinkle finish" looks bad?

Oh yeah! If I want to hear my car as I blast through tunnels, sound is just a flip of a switch away.

Ahhh. The magic of power windows :)

if you only told the guy to do the firewall then i would tell him to strip everything off and just take the car some where else.

old cars have squeaks, but they dont come from the engine bay. they come from the rear hatch, loose inner trim, stuff like that.

im sure hes billing you for all that spray on crap he got all over everything in the engine bay.

sorry but in my opinion your mechanic is a hack and i would take the car some where else asap.

I'm feelin ya IJ. I was hoping it was just me. But it's clearly not. Damn, it's gonna waste alot of time getting all that shit off and repainting.

And as far as taking it somewhere else. Not an option. Long story. This guy has been paid a long time ago up front and is now just getting started. So I either have him work off what I paid him, or I pull the car and take a loss. Nothing else to say on that. Let's just drop it there.
