So I just got a white 89 Supra Targa top na auto trans for 300$ from my uncle. There's a kick tho, no engine or trans. But I didn't need those anyways
I am 16, and plan on doing a 2jz swap into it.
There is some questions that I have tho.
I have read all the threads about is swaps into mk3's and it doesnt seem difficult. The only thing that I am concerned about is what do I need from the original gte engine and tran that it had? From what I can see in the engine bay is that the wiring harness is still there. And also, what tranny do yall suggest I go with? The car is originally a auto and I don't know if I should go with the A340E.
I'm hoping to get a job this summer and get he swap going. Thanks in advanced for the help!

R154 is the transmission of choice it seems.

As for the swap it self you dont need much is the drive shaft and differential still in the car?

That's what I was thinking, how hard is it to convert it to a manual trans?
And yes, the both the shaft and differential is still there and the the exhaust from the header down.

Well exhaust will be no good to you in a 2J swap.

A manual conversion really is not a conversion at all for you as you need a engine/harness/ecu and transmission

The chassis it self is universal in the sense no holes need to be cut to make it auto or manual.

You just need to buy the manual clutch pedal/clutch lines/brake pedal/clutch cylinder and so on

Ohh, alright. That really shed some light on the trans issue that I've had on my mind since I got the car. I didn't want an auto.
And also, as far as I see there is no radiator in here either, I would need a replacement from a 87-92 right?

R154 is definitely the transmission you want. My car was an auto and it was improperly swapped to a W58 5-Speed, which slowly started to shit itself. Especially considering you're gonna swap a 2JZ into it, get a R154 and spend the money now and do it properly. That way you won't have to worry about anything going seriously wrong later on.

1) Welcome to the forums, get some pictures up!

2) Click on the JZ link in my signature, it spells out all you need to know on getting a JZ in the car and contains a discussion thread that helps to add things to the main thread.

3) Save up your funds, they go away quickly when doing the swap. Stick around on the forums and you will find deals that will help you in doing your swap.

I think I might as well go with the R154, I'm gonna try to get some pics up by the end of these week so I can yall can see what I'm working with.
Right now I have about 500 saved up, but by the end if this summer I have it finished.
Do yall think 3500 is a fair budget or should I expect to spend more?

Welcome to the forums, also the best advice I can give you is save up for a daily driver/beater car if you want to commit yourself to the life called "supra"... Trust me you'll thank me later.

I would say more unless you can fabricate and wire everything yourself. Budget twice what you think, and you'll have extra if you do good. ;)

Speaking of good advice, see that "living with a Supra" thread linked in my signature? Take a read over that thread...

Anyway, welcome to the forum, and don't rush things. Take your time, and it will show down the road. Plus, if you're smart, you'll have another car to drive while you build the Supra. By your early 20's, you'll have yourself a badass car if you do things right. Patience and dedication are key. :)

Probably like $5000 for a 2jzgte swap, unless you meant 2jzge, in which case it would be cheaper, either way it would be hard to pay off with a summer job.
