im new to the site. but ive owned 3 supras besides this one i just got.. anyway i traded 2 cars for a 1989 supra n/a 137,000 miles. ice pearl blue. body is in mint condition. targa top.runs great. not turbo but thats down the road... ordered the headers already, has pacesetter catback. and k&n intake system. overall i love the car . and glad to have a supra again.... ive owned 2 85 supras. and they are nice but having a mk3 is just so much nicer. with the handling and everything... anyway i was looking at stock specs. bone stock... and 85 supra is something like 0-60 in 8.5 and 1/4 in 16.4 ive also read the 88 (couldnt find 89) 0-60 in 8.0 and 1/4 in 16.0. seems kinda slow to me. i was at the track last week and ran with my girlfreinds scion tc a 16.28 at 84 mph. (just did it to see what it would run) im shur u guys went over this with ppl and told them get a turbo yaddayadda yadda! but just wandering . i find it hard for a stock mk3 to run a 16.0 even with the exhaust and intake it should be mid 15,s i would think so. lol anyway thanks for reading and im a proud owner and didicated owner of the supra!!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of the old "muscle cars" will run 14-16 sec 1/4 miles too -- they really weren't that fast, just were considered fast at a time when 20sec 1/4 mile times were the norm...

The MK3 wasn't designed to be a racecar. It was Toyota's flagship, showcasing the latest/greatest Japanese technology from the 1980s. As such, it is a very comfortable car that makes more than enough power to cruise at high speeds over various terrain. It was 400-600lbs heavier than the other japanese GTs, and while its quite capable of handling well -- in stock form it really is a grand tourer in every sense of the word.

As for NA power, its been beaten to death over the years. As far as I know, the fastest NA drag time is still Dean M (I think high 13's with lots of bolt-ons). I'm sure its capable of much more, but it becomes so much less expensive to go a lot faster with a turbo.

I think Motor Trend summed it up nicely in may of 1986 ( http://www.geocities.com/ma71supraturbo/articles/mk3/5_86mtsupra.html ):

"The Supra in particular is a true dual-purpose car. It's not only comfortable as a long-distance cruisemobile, devouring freeways, but also top notch at covering ground over twisty two-lane stuff. It may not be the ultimate Showroom Stock racer, but it handles anything you can throw at it with complete aplomb, and is one of the best GT car buys available."
