^smoking definitely. Had no idea about the heater core though. Very interesting. And no, its not a joke dave. The window is PITA when you have to do it 10x over to get it clean from the film that accumulates.

Any suggestions on what chemical actually can cut through this film??

It happens on my 2009 Corolla (which even has a cabin air filter). It can even be from the type of glass cleaner used. Often times it will leave a tiny bit of residue on the glass, and the dust from your vents slowly sticks to it. If the cleaner is not wiped off extremely well.

On the other hand when I clean the glass myself with better foaming glass cleaner and spend a lot of time cleaning it, it basically never happens again until someone else cleans it with crappy cleaner again, lol.

Also, I'm extremely picky about this, so what I think is annoying most people probably wouldn't even bother cleaning, so that must be taken into account.
