Hey Everyone,

I just bought a 88 supra turbo and I have been trying to get it running. It turns over just fine but won't fire. I just had some questions from what I have read about other people having starting issues. Things I am going to check :

- Trouble codes ( Can this be done if the motor will not run? With the key on th on position with it give me codes? )
- Fuel ( Whats the best why to check if I'm getting fuel? )
- Fuel Pump ( Not clear on which terminals I have to jump to test this )
- Spark

Car ran in april supposedly and everything looks in order, this is my first supra and I am still new to them. I have searched but found little help about checking if I am getting fuel and such.

Thanks

Hi and welcome!

Here is the link to the TSRM. The lifeline of all MKIII owners!

http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/default.aspx

Codes: Yes, the car will give you codes with the key on the 'ON' position and the jumper installed properly. Refer to the above link for jumper location and instructions.

Fuel: You can check to make sure the fuel pump is working by installing a jumper with the key in the "ON" position. Again refer to link above.

If the car sputters and sounds like it's trying to start, pop the hood and shake/rattle/move the CPS and associated wires. You may simply have a bad CPS wire!

Good luck and post findings!

spaying starting fluid directly into the throttle body while cranking is a good way to see if its NOT getting fuel.

UPDATE

I checked the codes and there are none, checked the fuel pump and the jumper wire sparked and got warm so power there. I sprayed some starting fluid in the throttle body and the car started for half a second so it's no getting fuel. When I got the car the tank was empty so I put 16 liters in it about 3 gal is this enough? should I put a little more in to prime the system??

Thanks!

I will check the timming but I don't think thats it, it seems to want to start. I will put new spark plugs in it too as I have no clue how old they are. Maybe a new fuel filter.

turn the ignition to on, and jumper +B and Fp. If you hear the fuel pump and can hear fuel passing through the return line, the pump isn't your problem.
