Why infantry?

As far as not being able to work on my MOS enough to get any value from it, I call BS. I close friend of mine went with the National Guard (I can't recall what MOS) and is now making 90K through gov. contracting, I believe in I.T.. I recall him having some Microsoft andCisco Network Security certifications.

I'm in the infantry and I enjoy being in the suck and pushing my body to its limits, so I'm just being biased ;)

Right, how long has he been in and what is his rank?

No MOS in the military is going to get you qualified for immediately working government contracts out of basic training - unless your in the special forces pipeline, or maybe intelligence or civil affairs. You also need approval from your unit commander and higher up to go on Inactive Guard status (ING). You will not get this being a new recruit to your unit for at least a year and you better not be a shitty soldier.

I bet your friend had to fight his way through many other NG applicants and I know he didn't get his job overnight. My point is, being an E4 and below with limited experience isn't going to get you anything quickly - especially in the guard.

Ok, I understand angle. I understood your statement as NEVER being able to use skills aquired in this MOS. He's done his 6yrs, I would never assume to be able to handle any job for the matter after twelve weeks of trainning. In that time frame just your just becoming really familiar with the basics of any job.
