Sounds like a great Job I would jump all over it!!!

I think its funny how much stuff costs out in California. In Frago a very nice new house is 130K-200K!! You can still buy a house here for 80k. In some of the small towns in ND you can buy a nice older home for 45k.... Of course the average salary here is like 30-40k.......

As some guys have said, $80K is a nice salary, but nothing to consider enough to classify you as "rich" right away. If you live conservatively and invest it, though, you'll be very well off down the road.

I'd rather not work for anything less than $50-$60K once I get a job after I'm out of the military (going back to CA for good on the 25th).

u hate being in the af? howcome?

Aside from getting screwed over and forced into a job I never wanted to do, and not being able to tell certain people to go fuck themselves without fear of retribution on my paycheck, etc,.. its not too bad. I'll admit they have given me the opportunity to travel around the world, literally. But the military, I personally think so anyways, has too much control over my life. Yeah I know the beni's are great and whatnot and if I actually had a family I might want to stay in just for that BUT since I dont and I am not happy with the way things have gone for me in the military I plan to get out when my enlistment is over in July. The military can be wonderful for some people but it just isnt for me. I'am tired of having to act like some sort of damn robot and having to be at the mercy of some control freak every time I do something HE/SHE doesnt like!

I plan on going to law school and opening my own law firm. Plus in the real world people cant just come up to you and bitch you out because your driving to fast or they dont like how loud your stereo is. I always get some jackoff Tsgt or Msgt. bitching at me because I might be driving a little faster then he likes or because my stereo might be a little loud. Now, the way I see it if you dont sign my paycheck/supervisor, etc, or if I didnt come from your nutsack, or you are a cop. I dont owe you shit! Period point blank! If your not one of those three or four types of people and you come at me all negative for stupid shit your going to get a big FUCK YOU from me. I dont have a problem doing shit that is asked of me but when you start gettting real nit picky about stupid shit and take it out on me because your have a few more stripes then me then you can kiss my ass! The only thing a stripe or bars, or whatever...,tells me is that you've been in longer and MAY posess some leadership skills. The other day I had some stupid Msgt bitch at me because she was saying something to me and I didnt catch it so I said
"what?". Stupid bitches like that really make me dislike my line of work more and more.

You'll realize someday that the military isn't all that bad of a place to be, man. I know just what you're talking about, and it sure as shit annoys me. The military breeds very judgemental people, if you ask me.

You seem to be looking at it all the wrong way, though, man. You seem to think that your recruiter owes you something, when in reality, you owed it to yourself in the first place to find out all that you could about the military.

Your attitude about the whole thing is one that I've seen so much that I just get sick of it. Instead of speaking so negatively about it, you should appreciate all that you've gotten out of your experience. That is, unless, you never gave a shit and always had a chip on your shoulder.

Think positively, dude, and don't be naive about the civilian world. It's not a walk in the park, so to speak.

I know they can, Its happened to me before. When people bitch at me for stupid shit like that unless they are nice and curteous( did I spell that right?) about it then I just usually just tell them to go screw themselves. In the military you try and pull some bullshit like that and if they want to pursue it they could call your boss and next thing you know your standing in front of your 1st Sergeant or whoever because you told Sgt. or Lt so and so to go screw himself. Now last I checked you couldnt be legally punished in the civilian world for telling a random person to go screw himself because you did something that they didnt like. Now I know the "civilian world" is no walk in the park. I realize it isnt easy but I'd rather have to have things a little tough and actually be happy with whats going on with my life versus being told to do everything at a specific time and basically having to be a robot and having things somewhat easy and being miserable. I actually made that comment about my recruiter in jest. We actually email each other every now and then. I've just come to the realization that for me the cons outwieght the pro's with regards to me staying in the military. Plus I know if I dont get out and get my degree asap I'll be one of these guys thats been in 15 years and still working on their degree. Something I definitely dont wanna do. I reality I have no beef with the AF or the military in general. Like I said earlier the military works for some people but it just isn't for me.

Um, buddy, iono bout the rest of the country but where I live you'd be on the streets barely surviving at 30k USD/yr.
City I live inn median income is over 82k/yr, and its one of the lower income cities in the B/A. BTW, its also the city w/ the most houses over 1mil in the US.

That is hardly the standard for rich, i imagine it would be hard to pay a house, car, and other payments solely on that in california

Yes, it is. My parents own a real estate biz and make much more than that per year, but with all the payments for eqpt and stuff like that, we actually have kind of a tough time financially.

Also, here you can't find a decent house for less than 450k. We have an 1850ish sqft house, 4 bed 2 ba, I think its worth around 700ish.

Yes things are crazy expensive in America Valge. lol.

Average price for a home where my parent live is between 200 and 300K and thats for a decent house. Where I live though, holy shit you dont wanna know how much it cost. The cost of living is unbelieveable expensive here. Even places like SoCal or B/A look kinda cheap. An average apartment here in Tokyo can run you anywhere between 5 and 12K USD PER month for rent!

^ maybe its just me coming from my hick town...

But why the hell would anyone need a $400k house? Better yet, why would you want to live in a place where every house costs $400k?

I'd almost bet $400k would buy my whole town.

Well to be fair a lot of the wages reflect the cost of living for a certain area. People living and working in Manhattan NY, NY are going to make a lot more then folks living and working in Manhattan KS.

MkiiMan,
Thats going in as my sig.
Its just supply and demand.

HAHAHAHAHA, just noticed you're from Indiana.
You need to come out here, you'd be blown away. There are other races besides white people! Here's the wiki for Fremont. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fremont,_CA Check out the racial stats. I go out to Indy most years for the Indy 500, the people there scare me (rednecks) and the food there is sooo boring (all white ppl food lol). Yes I'm white, but its boring to be around all white people and theres only so much American food you can eat lol.
