I was pleasantly surprised at the results from the Igniter Ground Mod that I did today and wanted to post them up.

In the first log look at how jagged my timing data is. At times, there was as much as a 10* shift. Not good!

After the mod it is much more stable. There are all sorts of benefits to that!

Thanks JetJock!

ground the igniter ground directly to the battery with a wire..

took me 10 minutes, but I haven't turned the car on in months, so I'll let you guys know what happens after I do...

search crisp, he did a pictorial write up after JJ shared the tip
Open the case, there is a screw right under the wires where they enter, ground this screw to the battery negative.

Did you ground to the terminal itself or the ground point on the body? What gauge wire did you use? A pic would be nice ;)

I used a 12 gauge wire; but, I had to open the hole a bit to fit it through. A 14 gauge wire should fit through no problem. I chose 12 gauge because I wanted a few extra strands. ;)

I didn't ground to the battery. I grounded to one of the bolts that secure the Igniter.

Review Crisp's write up. If y'all still want a pic of mine, I'll gladly oblige. :)

You be welcome Kenny. I recommend connecting to the battery fender ground and 12 awg is way overkill but hey, whatever works...

Any other hints/tips like this for us?

aww, okay..

I left some slack in the wire incase I had to relocate it, but is grounding it directly to the battery okay, or is there no difference..?

Yes, it is ok to ground to the battery. On the (-) that is... ;)

The recommendation is to double up the grounds. One to chassis and one to battery ground.

My igniter was relocated to one of the brake proportional valve mounting bolts because I needed the stock location for a coolant filter. Along with the igniter the ECU/injector grounds should also be connected to the fender ground point. I also chained all the factory ground points together. That's a job best left to when the interior is out.

Open ignitor. Find screw. Attach wire. Close ignitor. Ground wire. It's as simple as it sounds. ;)
